Riveting storytelling!
I binged on back-back seasons of Hard Call this last weekend. It’s a thought-provoking and engaging series with lots of twists and turns. I can’t get the main characters “Max” and “Jeff” out of my head. You truly bond with both of them as they make agonizing decisions about their health and life situations. This is true science and health storytelling at its best!

I work with patient making the decision about whether to get an LVAD and this podcast was so helpful. There are so many complexities around making the decision and how it works out. I cant recommend this podcast enough for people interested in ethics, medical decision making and just how we make any kind of difficult decision.

Great mix of story and health care landscape
The docs on the podcast do a great job of weaving a really interesting character story into the field of mental illness. Love the fact that they are so honest about the patient and he’s so honest-ish about himself.

New Favorite Podcast
I am a first year medical student, and I can not tell you how happy I am to have found this podcast. These incredibly hard questions are so important to health care and I relish every opportunity I get to dive into them. I hope that every who comes in to contact with the healthcare system (which is just about everyone) gets the opportunity to listen to this podcast. Thank you to the creators for putting out such a thought provoking show and I can't wait for more episodes to come out!

A great balance of clinical sophistication and human compassion.
These podcasts are extremely well produced and invite the listener in to the lived world of mental "illness", both from the individual's perspective as well as the family's. Simultaneously, you are offered the perspective of the clinician, who must make vital decisions that have a great impact on people's lives and on society as a whole. At the end of each episode, the listener is invited to ponder the human dilemma just presented and ask himself or herself, "What would I do?" This approach helps make the merely true and abstract in to something Real for the listener.

Very intriguing
So often, we think mental illness is clear-cut -- if a person is acting crazy, they are dangerous and need to be helped. The "Derailed" series explores how nuanced mental health (and problems with it) really are. How can we tell when a person is genuinely a danger to him/herself and others, vs. just a bit unusual or erratic? This podcast treats nuances in health ethics with respect and curiosity and is very engaging to listen to. Great work.
