Business leader and humanitarian Carlos Slim received the medal in recognition of his significant contributions to business and community development in Mexico and Latin America and his extensive philanthropic work through his foundations.

Before an audience of distinguished guests that included Kim Yook-Ok, first lady of the Republic of Korea, Republic of North Korea Ambassador Han Duk-soo and students, staff and faculty at the Jack Morton Auditorium, The George Washington University President Steven Knapp today conferred His Excellency Lee Myung-Bak, president of the Republic of Korea, an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree from GW.

Ralph Nader, Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, United States District Court judge Paul Friedman and CNN's Wolf Blitzer were among those honoring Theodore and Annette Lerner and the Lerner family Tuesday night at the Newseum for their significant contribution to advancing public interest and public service law at The George Washington University. GW Law School Dean Frederick Lawrence introduced the first Lerner Family Associate Dean for Public Interest and Public Service Law at GW, Alan Morrison, a renowned Supreme Court litigator and co-founder with Nader of Public Citizen. The celebration was hosted by GW President Steven Knapp and Dean Lawrence and included distinguished members of the legal community from across DC.

The George Washington University announced a significant investment in undergraduate and graduate education under the Post-9/11 GI bill's Yellow Ribbon Program. Yellow Ribbon qualified veterans attending GW as undergraduate students will receive free tuition and those attending as graduate students will receive a significantly discounted tuition rate. GW President Steven Knapp made the announcement today at GW's Kogan Plaza, joined by Tammy Duckworth, MA '92, Assistant Secretary for Public and Intergovernmental Affairs, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs; former Senator John Warner, author of the Post-9/11 GI Bill; and Brian Hawthorne, a GW student veteran and representative of the Student Veterans of America.
