I have been watching and cheering on our guest, Warren Davies – the unbreakable farmer for I’d say 5 years – I just love what he’s doing for our farming communities in particular. A story of an ordinary bloke, who was broken after making the decision to walk off his farm, leaving his livelihood, his sense of identity, and the memories he and his family created. Georgina Gubbins is a leader in the agricultural sector who's had her fair share of heartbreak and disappointment. For the first 16 years of her working life, Georgina was a nurse - it wasn't until her then husband walked out on her and her daughters, that she took the reins of the family farming business. In this episode we talk about her farming business, off-farm industry leadership roles, and the people she's surrounded herself with that have supported and mentored her along the way. Food and fibre production has traditionally been taken for granted - according to Georgina - and we need to concentrate on communicating a positive message - she reckons it's time to let young people know there is a bright future in our industry! Originally the vision for this episode was to talk about how we attract talent to agriculture after I read an article that she featured in. However, during our conversation goes much deeper and Georgina opens up about losing her dear brother and mentor, Simon. There is a trigger warning here - Georgina lost Simon to suicide. I wanted to mention this to firstly, acknowledge Georgina's courage and strength in talking about such a difficult topic; and secondly, to flag that parts of this conversation may upset some listeners. Some people seem to have a knack for making good decisions, and some people only make one decision... and that is not to make one at all. Cam Nicholson says anyone can be a good decision maker but like anything else, you need to know how to properly. Cam is pretty well known in the industry for his involvement with farmer programs for the Grains Research & Development Corporation, Meat & Livestock Australia, Dairy Australia, Southern Faming Systems and Landcare. Host, Sally Murfet, thinks about decision making a lot; and how to help clients make strong tactical or operational decisions. In this episode she dives into the very technical process of decision making and how anyone can learn how to make better decisions.

The name Sue Middleton might sound familiar - particularly if you are on Twitter - Sue is super passionate about agriculture and regional development and is not afraid to use her voice to advocate for issues that are important to us who live away from the latte set of the city life. Sue and her husband Michael grow grain, oaten hay, pork and citrus in the Wheatbelt of WA - although she's quick to tell you she's still a Queenslander when the state of origin is on. Many titles can be attributed to Sue - but how do you capture everything that Sue is and stands for with one label? While it's difficult to find a title neatly wraps Sue up in a bow - what I can tell you, is that the woman you are about to hear from next embodies collaboration, innovation and inclusion and wherever her boots or high heels hit the ground. Sue's diversity is truly reflected in this conversation through the ground we covered, ranging from, •Ag tech and innovation •Industry perception issues •Diversity and inclusion •Achieving a $100 billion sector by 2030 •And regional connectivity - (speaking of which, you may hear some sound quality issues caused by low connectivity throughout the interview) What I have long admired about Sue, is that she's not willing to accept the status quo if she can see a way to achieve better outcomes for rural and regional Aust. She a formidable woman.

In this episode, I speak with Stuart Austin, General Manager of Wilmot Cattle Co from the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales. Stuart is responsible for the growth and development of the operation which currently comprises of three properties across the New England and the growth and development of its human capital. Wilmot Cattle Co is a grassfed beef operation. What's unique about this business, is that Holistic Management and Regenerative Agriculture principles are being utilised here on a commercial scale. The overall philosophy at Wilmot Cattle Co is that healthy soil, plants, human and cattle leads to a higher performing business. The Wilmot Cattle Co team has recently undertaken a look under the bonnet to understand what makes them tick as individuals and how their respective personalities engage with each other on a day to day basis. Later in this interview, you may hear some background voices, the young farmers of the Ebor district were having their weekly convention (otherwise known as a play date) on the day that we recorded, and I think this really adds to the character of this interview. But what I really valued most about the interview was Stu's vulnerability in reflecting on the type of leader that he was as a young fella, in comparison to the leader that he's evolved into today, and I'm sure you will agree.

Claire Booth, together with her husband Brendan, are first-generation farmers operating a mixed enterprise in the Central West of New South Wales, Australia. Based on the Macquarie River in the Macquarie Valley, they focus on high value cropping programs, balanced by a small breeding program and livestock trading to 'iron out' the peaks and troughs associated with high-risk irrigated cropping. In addition to being a Farmer and a Mum, Claire is a Lawyer in nearby Dubbo. She specialises in wills, succession planning, and the transfer of wealth across the generations involved in farming and business. In 2018, Claire embarked on Nuffield Scholarship combining her passion from agriculture and law to understand from a global perspective what drives land values, and debt and financial literacy in agriculture.
