God uses human means toward divine purposes of salvation. He accomplishes his divine purposes by human means of preaching, experiences, scripture and eye-witnesses. How does he use me to accomplish his purpose is advancing the gospel?

Paul declares that his current place of suffering is not hindering but advancing the gospel's message. We see that Paul's imprisonment is giving confidence to the church at Philippi and emboldening them to give the gospel to the city.

Our desire is to grow in our love for Christ and our love for one another. Paul prays this for this church. He also prayer for a deeper knowledge of God's word and for a discerning heart to differentiate the difference between right and wrong. In these verses we learn the affection needed to work through this process of sanctification (more like Jesus less like us).

Jesus began a good work in believers and will be faithful to complete until the very end. This is some of the most important and encouraging news a believer can receive and Paul gives this news to the Philippian Church and to believers every where.
