This podcast is just so great tbh
It’s a fantastic comedy podcast that promotes the best comedy and is a joy to listen to throughout bc even the conversations they keep the levity and squeeze the comedy out of all scenarios

Good One: a podcast about jokes.
This is absolutely one of my favorite podcasts. Every episode offers another turn of the diamond that is comedy. It’s an absolute master class!

A must listen for all stand up comedy fans
Good One is a work of art all its own … a seemingly limitless source of both laughter and insight into the ever-evolving culture of comedy in America.

Super polished
Great guests supported by incredibly thoughtful and thorough interviewing. The preparation is laudable. Keep crushing!

Excellent interviewing gets you more than just polite conversation
Sam Morril even noted how good of an interviewer Jesse David Fox is in his episode. I really love how Jesse pushes to understand the mechanics of a bit, the choices a comedian makes about what parts to include or not, and the process that goes into determining how that joke ultimately comes out. From a creative standpoint it’s awesome to hear how personal lives and taste can go into a bit, beyond what is just formulaically going to work. The choices comedians make are so interesting when really put under the microscope and shows just how varied of an art form and a business and a craft all of it is all at once. Love this pod.

Great Process Show
Regardless of what medium you are creative in, it's always fun to hear an artist break down their process. And when you've got an interviewer as good as Jesse at the helm, it's super educational, too. A must listen show.

Kathleen Madigan
Is talking about comedy interesting? Not often. But even when Jesse David Fox asks about “artistic process” you learn about the person behind the mic. Kathleen Madigan interview was sooo interesting. Listen!

Really good talk. Thanks.

I have a joke.
I went to the mall today for the fifth time this week. While I was walking through the shops I stepped on a piece of gum. Now I keep getting more and more ATTACHED to this place 🥁

Jesse 4 Ever
Jesse is such an insightful archeologist of comedy.

So many glitches…
I typically enjoy the content of the show, but every episode has at least 2 to 4 major audio glitches. Suddenly the audio will rewind a couple of minutes or cut forward and I find myself baffled, trying to unravel the narrative. Podcasts with a fraction of your audience have impeccable production quality, so there’s no excuse. Please show some pride in your product.

A MasterClass I’m joke writing
This has been such an enjoyable and informative podcast! I am getting more into joke writing and humor and this is a fun way to explore the “why” and “how” of jokes. Thanks for creating this!

More James Acaster, Please!
Wow! First listen and LOVED the interview with James Acaster. Thoughtful questions and a host that doesn’t interrupt the guest, what a delight.

great conversations about the craft of comedy
I’ve been listening to good one since almost the first episode. One of the things that impresses me over and over again is how much the comedians seem to appreciate the in depth, specific questions about their art. Perfect example from a recent episode: “I don’t give many interviews, and this was a pleasure. You were prepared and thorough…I would want you to interview somebody that I would want to know something about, especially comedians.” - Katt Williams Start with an episode with a comedian who makes YOU laugh. Then listen to another, and another….

Bring Roy Wood Jr. back for more!!
Have loved this podcast for years. Jesse brings it every time with his skilled interviewing style, excellent curation of guests and their bits, and moreover, his dedication to learning about the guests and their material prior to their appearance on the show. All of that said, having the opportunity to listen to Roy Wood Jr. interview Moses Storm was such a gift. Roy’s ability to leverage his own skill at comedic devices such as transforming personal tragedy and complicated family history to produce a funny, compelling stand up act paid dividends as he thoughtfully and expertly interviewed Moses on some of these same methods. Bravo! And, more please…

Keep It Coming!
LOVE comedy and what a CLEVER idea for a podcast. I enjoy hearing the comedy routines and listening to the story behind the jokes. It’s so REFRESHING. Who doesn’t enjoy a good WARM-HEARTED LAUGH, especially during these interesting times. BRAVO to the HOST, the GUESTS, and the A-TEAM that make up the Good One Podcast!

I really want to love this podcast…
But I just can’t get into it. Jesse David Fox is one of the least engaging hosts, especially given the subject matter. I feel like he’s too academic with his line of questions and doesn’t dynamically respond to what the guests are saying and just plows through his list even if they’re non-sequiturs. I definitely prefer Comedian’s Comedian podcast over this one.

King of Comedy Nerds
I am a comedy nerd. I love comics’ comics. I love interviews with stand-up and improv comedians. I love the dissecting of a how comedy works. One of my proudest moments in life was when I waited on Drew Carey and I said something that made him laugh. So, already, this podcast is up my alley. I listened to about 20 episodes and had already decided this was one of my favorite podcasts and then I listened to the interview with Fortune Feimster, whom I love. Jesse David Fox asks her a question about the philosophy of Heidegger and how it relates to one of her jokes. You can tell Fortune, at first, is like “Where is this going?” but she’s along for the ride and her answer leads to her very movingly sharing about how her coming out story impacted the life of a straight man. In my book, Jesse is the King of Comedy Nerds. If you love comedy, you will love this podcast!

Editing
I love you guys, but get frustrated during the specials roundups, which could benefit so much from some gentle editing. A lot of conversational filler before we hit the point. It's like eating a pomegranate.

Super smart and funny
Jesse and his comedian guests make it clear how comedy is an art form. I love the vibe and always stay interested even when I’ve never heard of the guest.

Good
Probably the best podcast on comedy (not just stand up) that I’ve heard.

Bo Burnham!
I had seen it before but was crying hearing this bit again. Going from “I wouldn’t have gotten the lettuce” at Chipotle to articulating the sheer underlinable principle of existential despair...brilliance.

A comedy nerd’s dream
I love this show so much! As a self-confirmed comedy nerd, this pod might not be everyone; it’s super granular and if you don’t keep up with specials or have broad knowledge I concede that it could be boring. BUT I LOVE IT & JESSE SO MUCH. He delights in digging into the writing, the delivery, and the very specific choices comics make. He asks 90% of the questions I would if sitting down with my heroes. Intelligent, thoughtful, and funny- thanks for this! Edit: Just an FYI that James Acaster’s new stuff is worth buying on Vimeo if you hadn’t done so- I got it as soon as available and it’s in my top 5 specials of all time. I always loved him and Off Menu podcast is excellent & just reached 100 eps!

It’s time for the laughening round
There is so much programming around talking to comedians about comedy, but this podcast stands above them all. Jesse has an infectious enthusiasm for the craft. He asks thoughtful questions that reveal the inner workings of my favorite, or soon to be, comedians showing how much effort and care it takes to create a perfect joke. Great podcast for aspiring comedians, but even as someone with no desire I find this podcast to be fascinating and inspiring.

Love the discussion. Lost me at the stool rating though. I get the meaning but Sounded awful every time someone said 1 stool,4 stool, 4 1/4 stool. Maybe a Mic (rophone) rating would sound better.

I LOVE this Podcast.
I’ve really enjoyed this podcast. Have only heard the Marc Maron, Taylor Tomlinson and Michelle Wolf episodes. All great, but the Michelle Wolf episode was so funny. I was already a big fan, but love her more now. Update - I feel like this podcast was made for me. I really enjoy how most comedians truly appreciate the analysis and time that Jesse David Fox puts into each interview. It has also introduced me to new comedians that I hadn’t been aware of.

Favorite show, 10000 stars
Jesse over explaining the laughening round to every guest is the ultimate joke, all other comedians can stop trying

So so good!
I love Good One so much! One of my favorite things about this podcast is when the subject gives Jesse David Fox props on how thoroughly he researched before the interview. This happens a lot, and yet every time it’s always so impressive!

Excellent
I love the host’s approach to interviewing and the intimacy that’s fostered in each episode. Being obsessed with comedy and then getting to hear a comedian breakdown a bit or a joke is just so gratifying. Love love love. Birbigs recommended this podcast in one of his episodes. And I found Mikes podcast through the podcast Risk 🔥

PERFECTION
I find everything about this podcast to be perfectly delightful...the insightful, in-depth interviews with comedians that I really enjoy make certain episodes instant classics...I find myself going back and listening to them over and over again...

Verbal ticks take away from high quality
Such great guests. Good stuff. The word “like” must however be banned. It sounds middle school girls talking by their lockers during passing time. <<grumpy old man?, perhaps?>> It truly does detract from the otherwise high quality. Thank you.

I love hearing about the creative process of writing and revising and the subtle changes that make a big difference.

A Comedy Nerd’s Dream
I absolutely love this podcast and can’t believe how often Jesse has asked my heroes the same questions I would if given the chance. To anyone who has left a review saying this pod “isn’t funny”; this podcast provides a platform for the funniest people in our culture, but its mission is not to make you laugh. Rather, comedians are able to reveal intimate details of the process of their craft and philosophize about the meaning of comedy. It is an intellectual, creative, and sophisticated conversation every time. I only wish I could fill in for Jesse from time to time!
