Sermon: On the Importance of Salvation
"He sent them into his vineyard." (Matt. xx. 2)Sermon for Septuagesima Sunday: On the Importance of Salvation"The vines of the Lord are our souls, which he has given us to cultivate by good works, that we may be one day admitted into eternal glory. "How," says Salvian, "does it happen that a Christian believes, and still does not fear the future?" Christians believe death, judgment, hell, and Paradise: but they live as if they believed them not as if these truths of faith were tables or the inventions of human genius. Many live as it they were never to die, or as if they had not to give God an account of their life as if there were neither hell nor a heaven. Perhaps they do not believe in them? They believe, but do not reflect on them; and thus they are lost. They take all possible care of worldly affairs, but attend not to the salvation of their souls."✅ For the full text transcript, visit: https://mannaofthesoul.blogspot.com/2023/02/sermon-on-importance-of-salvation.htmlPlease remember to pray for all who made these information available to you.Source:"Sermons for all the Sundays in the year" by St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori, Bishop of St. Agatha and Founder of the Congregration of the Most Holy Redeemer. Sermon: Last Sentence of the Judge on the Criminal
"Many are called, but few chosen." (St. Matthew 20: 16.) Sermon for Septuagesima Sunday: "Last Sentence of the Judge on the Criminal" "Fearful words: The smaller number shall be called to the kingdom of heaven, and the greater number condemned to hell! If we blind mortals only thought of that while there is still time, that we might be inspired with a salutary fear, and so live that we may be found among the few elect! We have hitherto considered the state of the guilty sinner before the judgment-seat, and how he shall be summoned to judgment, questioned therein, accused, and convicted. There is still another and that a most terrible point to be considered, namely, how he shall be condemned by the sentence pronounced on him. "Then shall He say to them also that shall be on His left hand: Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire!" Ah, those words are enough to dry up the marrow of one’s bones! Depart from me, you cursed! Where to? Into everlasting fire! I shall speak to you to-day on the words of the first part of this sentence: "Depart from me, you cursed." ✅ For the full text transcript, visit: https://mannaofthesoul.blogspot.com/2023/02/ermon-last-sentence-of-judge-on-criminal.html Please remember to pray for all who made these information available to you. Sermon: Dangers to Eternal Salvation
"And when he entered into the boat, his disciples followed him ; and, behold, a great tempest arose in the sea." (Matt. viii. 23-24) Sermon for the Fourth Sunday After the Epiphany: Dangers to Eternal Salvation "The first means of salvation, then, is to recommend ourselves continually to God, that he may keep his hands over us, and preserve us from offending him. The next is, to cleanse the soul from all past sins by making a general confession. A general confession is a powerful help to a change of life. When the tempest is violent the burden of the vessel is diminished, and each person on board throws his goods into the sea in order to save his life. folly of sinners, who, in the midst of such great dangers of eternal perdition, instead of diminishing the burden of the vessel that is, instead of unburdening the soul of her sins load her with a greater weight. Instead of flying from the dangers of sin, they fearlessly continue to put themselves voluntarily into dangerous occasions; and, instead of having recourse to God’s mercy for the pardon of their offences, they offend Him still more, and compel Him to abandon, them." ✅ For the full text transcript, visit: https://mannaofthesoul.blogspot.com/2023/01/sermon-dangers-to-eternal-salvation.html Please remember to pray for all who made these information available to you. Sermon: The Examination of the Sinner in Judgment
"Whatsoever he shall say to you, do ye." (St. John 2: 5) Sermon for the Fourth Sunday after Epiphany: "The Examination of the Sinner in Judgment" "In the judgment we shall be questioned about all we have thought during our lives. "The books were opened, and the dead were judged by those things which were written in the books, according to their works" (Apoc. 22: 12). All the secrets of men’s hearts and consciences shall then be displayed in a most vivid light. "Give an account of thy stewardship" (Luke 16: 2), shall be said to each one. Come here, oh, man! give an account of all that has occurred in your household during the time of your life. Account for the thoughts that were in your mind! Thought is free, we generally say; no worldly jurisdiction has any control over it, not even the Church herself, unless one reveals his thoughts to her. God has reserved this right to himself alone: "The Lord is the weigher of spirits" (Prov. 26: 2). What filth shall then come forth from the hearts of many who now show no mark of it on their foreheads!" ✅ For the full text transcript, visit: https://mannaofthesoul.blogspot.com/2023/01/sermon-examination-of-sinner-in-judgment.html Please remember to pray for all who made these information available to you. Sermon: On The Remorse Of The Damned
"But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into the exterior darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth" (Matt. viii. 12.) Sermon for the Third Sunday After the Epiphany: On The Remorse Of The Damned "In the Gospel of this day it is related that, “when Jesus Christ entered into Capharnaum, there came to him a centurion beseeching him” to cure his servant, who lay sick of the palsy. Jesus answered: “I will come and heal him.” “No,” replied the centurion,  “I am not worthy that thou shouldst enter under my roof; but only say the word, and my servant shall be healed.” (v. 8.) Seeing the centurion’s faith, the Redeemer instantly consoled him by restoring health to his servant; and, turning to his disciples, he said: “Many shall come from the east and the west, and shall sit down with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of Heaven. But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into the exterior darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” By these words our Lord wished to signify, that many persons born in infidelity shall be saved, and enjoy the society of the saints, and that many who are born in the bosom of the Church shall be cast into Hell, where the worm of conscience, by its gnawing, shall make them weep bitterly for all eternity. Let us examine the remorses of conscience which, a damned Christian shall suffer in Hell." ✅ For the full text transcript, visit: https://mannaofthesoul.blogspot.com/2023/01/sermon-on-remorse-of-damned.html Please remember to pray for all who made these information available to you. Sermon: The Summoning of the Dead to Judgment
"And I say to you that many shall come from the east and the west." (Matt. 8:11) Sermon for the Third Sunday after Epiphany: "The Summoning of the Dead to Judgment" ""They will come from the east and the west, but what a vast difference there shall be between them! Some shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, while others shall be cast into the exterior darkness. When shall this coming, this crisis take place? Sermon: The Glory and the Power of the Holy Name
"He humbled Himself, becoming obedient unto death, even the death of the Cross. For which cause God also hath exalted Him, and hath given Him a name which is above all names." (Phil. ii 8-9) "... there is a Name which is above all other names, a Name which we must always pronounce with the greatest reverence, with the most blissful happiness and the tenderest love; and that is the Name of Jesus. And why do we all cherish in our hearts so profound a respect, such love and devotion for this Most Holy Name? First: On account of its glory and excellence, and then (second) because of its wonderful power and abundance of grace. Let us make this the subject of our meditation in the Name of Jesus: "Who humbled Himself, becoming obedient unto death, even the death of the Cross. Wherefore God also hath exalted Him, and hath given Him a name which is above every name."" Sermon: Those Who Hear the Word of God without Fruit
"Whatsoever he shall say to you, do ye." (St. John 2: 5) Sermon for the Second Sunday after Epiphany: "Those Who Hear the Word of God without Fruit" "Many hear the Word of God in sermons, but without fruit or profit; because the seed falls by the wayside. There are three causes which prevent the seed that falls by the wayside from bearing fruit. 1. The first is, because the wayside is an open public place, where the seed can easily he blown away by the wind; 2. The second, because the seed, not being covered with earth, cannot take root; 3. The third, because it is liable to be trodden under foot by the passers-by, or to be eaten by the birds." ✅ For the full text transcript, visit: https://mannaofthesoul.blogspot.com/2023/01/those-who-hear-word-of-God-without-fruit.html Please remember to pray for all who made these information available to you. Sermon: Malice of Mortal Sin
"Behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing." (Lk. ii. 48.) Sermon for the First Sunday after Epiphany: "Malice of Mortal Sin". "Most holy Mary lost her Son for three days: during that time she wept continually for having lost sight of Jesus, and did not cease to seek after him till she found him. How then does it happen that so many sinners not only lose sight of Jesus, but even lose his divine grace; and instead of weeping for so great a loss, sleep in peace, and make no effort to recover so great a blessing? This arises from their not feeling what it is to lose God by sin. Some say: I commit this sin, not to lose God, but to enjoy this pleasure, to possess the property of another, or to take revenge of an enemy. They who speak such language show that they do not understand the malice of mortal sin. What is mortal sin? 0:00 - Introduction 1:15 - First Point. It is a great contempt shown to God. 11:24 - Second Point. It is a great offence offered to God." ✅ For the full text transcript, visit: https://mannaofthesoul.blogspot.com/2023/01/sermon-malice-of-mortal-sin.html Please remember to pray for all who made these information available to you. Sermon: The Mission of the Word of God for Procrastinating Sinners
"They found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, hearing them and asking them questions." (St. Luke 2:46) Sermon for the First Sunday after Epiphany: "The Mission of the Word of God for Procrastinating Sinners" "As our Lord Jesus Christ, when he wished to show his unheard of love to men, could not wait for the time of his bitter Passion and death, to shed his Saving Blood for them, but already as an Infant, eight days old, poured out the first drops of that precious Blood in the Circumcision, so, he would not wait for the time of his public mission to instruct and convert men, but commenced his office of Preacher in the twelfth year of his age, when he was found amongst the doctors in the temple, explaining the law to them by question and answer. Ah! If we had only the happiness of once hearing, as they did, the word of life from his own sacred lips, what an effect would it not have on our hearts! But what am I saying? Although it is now nearly two thousand years since he appeared in the world in visible form, he still preaches his divine word and explains his law by the mouths of priests. Alas! I should rather exclaim, would that all Christians were diligent enough in hearing his word. Then, indeed, would Christ reap a golden harvest. 0:00 - Introduction 2:07 - I. In the sanctification of the just.  12:57 - II.
