Today's episode features Meoshay Jefferson, a recent Political Science graduate who studied abroad in Jordan. She is a recipient of the Gilman Scholarship, a grant funded by the U.S. Department of State that enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad. The Gilman Scholarship Program aims to encourage underrepresented students to study and intern in a diverse array of countries or areas and world regions. It also encourages students to study languages, especially critical need languages (those deemed important to national security). Our conversation touches on how receiving the Gilman helped Meoshay study Arabic in the Middle East.

On this first edition of our Global Classroom series, Patrick Steimer sits down with Dr. Nicole fisk to talk about her Harry Potter themed Global Classroom, 'Fantastic Fiction and Where to Find it.' We dive into why Porto, Portugal was an inspirational location for J.K. Rowling and discuss what makes Harry Potter a great example of fictional writing. In addition to Portugal, students on Dr. Fisk's program will travel to London, England and visit some of the sights which inspired places such as Platform 9 and 3/4ths.
