I never write reviews…
I am a lazy consumer of audio programming. I listen to NPR and have never made a donation. I listen to many podcasts and have never sent them money let alone bothered to use my VERY VALUABLE TIME AND ENERGY to leave a review. Yet…here I am. I am exerting thought and action to lend my support to this fun and refreshing podcast. The opinions are well thought out and informed. The hosts are friendly, personable, and approachable. I look forward to new episodes, old episodes, and all the Patreon content. Yes! I even pay for the privlege of listening to Travis and Drew’s brain droppings! All in all! Great show for movie lovers and even people that just like popular culture.

Stellar
Episode on “All That Money Can Buy” was so good, I look forward to diving into the rest.

a new favorite
I wasn't really expecting to find any podcast covering The Little Girl Who Conquered Time, let alone one this thoughtful, passionate, and open-minded in their approach to so many films I love. From celebrating underappreciated gems like Body Snatchers to defending the virtues of very mixed but still artistically valuable films like What Dreams May Come- Genre Vision has quickly become one of my favorite podcasts.

A wonderful discovery
After getting caught up in the discourse surrounding the movie “The Sound of Freedom” I got in the mood for a deep dive into another flick that exploited the people it purported to elevate- “Cannibal Holocaust”. I listened to 25 different podcasts and found 20 repeated the same conversations, largely reading aloud the entries on the movie from Wikipedia and IMDB. This podcast was one of the 5 that stood out enough for me to listen to more of their back catalogue. At the end of the day, this is one of the 4 that I subscribed to, finding that it has discourse and content that you won’t find on the vast majority of other podcasts. I hope you enjoy it as well.

Buy this podcast!
Hey there, long time listener here, but guilty of not reviewing this podcast so rectifying now. I know I put a 5 out of 5 as the rating but I bumped those numbers up for appearances sake. Real rating is about a 4.6 out of 5 due to some random questionable ratings from Drew. The movies escape me now( blacked out from rage maybe?)but the opinions irked me so much that I had to rewind the podcasts to make sure I heard correctly.i got over it somehow. That’s -.2 of a point, and you guys accrued the same size smalled penalty for having never reviewed Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Puh puh puh puh puh puh pwe pwleeze! Other than that I can wholeheartedly recommend this podcast. These guys know their stuff and it’s been a real pleasure to listen to every week, for all these years! here’s to hopefully another ten years of triumphant Genrevision!See you next week and thanks a lot!

Great show
Great show, fun hosts. If anything it needs to be more antifascist, but it's still one of my favorite shows.

Awesome and insightful!
There is something transformative about experiencing movies with other people. And this podcast bottles that magic into engaging conversations with lively hosts that you can take on your next walk or commute. Funny, insightful, and often brilliant, this is one pod you can’t afford to miss!

Excellent Podcast
The hosts are very knowledgeable and passionate about their various subject matters. They go into the relevant history and informed critiques of unusual cult films and should-be-cult films. Very entertaining.

These friggin guys.....
(Dolemite one week and Deep Cover the next? If you wanted a 5 star review fellas, all you had to do was ask!) Long time listener. Drew and Travis have been part of almost every one of my Sunday mornings for about 4/5 years. I always enjoy their insightful, impassioned, funny reviews/discussions, and that they really seem to enjoy what they do. Their film selection is interesting, bonkers and deep enough to keep even the most well versed or jaded genre film fan on their toes. Easily my favorite weekly film pod. Shouts out to the accompanying film club at their website ( Milksteak, Sora, Nesbella, Fuchs....), episodes featuring films that Drew REALLY liked, and episodes featuring films that Travis REALLY DIDN'T like.

I’m just writing a review because they asked for one. Started listening when I got a random memory of the Brave Little Toaster. I enjoyed their in depth discussion of the film. Have continued listening since then.

Easily my favorite podcast!
I first discovered GenreVision back in 2020, and quickly became a big fan. Drew and Travis really know their stuff, and have an incredible love for cinema. Thanks to these two, I now have movies like The Curse of Frankenstein, Horror of Dracula, and the Coffin Joe trilogy under my movie-watching belt. Also: Being the massive swashbuckler fan that I am, I want to give major props to Drew for giving The Mask of Zorro a shout-out in their review for The Guyver. Easily one of my favorite moments in GenreVision history. Long story short - I love this podcast, and I highly recommend it to movie fans everywhere. All the best from this Loyal Listener, Ethan

Great show (and airing of complaint)
I love this podcast; in a world with oceans of podcasts making fun of bad movies, it's refreshing to find one where the hosts have a legitimate love of the art and craft, as well as being so knowledgable and passionate about it. I look forward to Genrevision episodes being released every week. Now, as a sociologist, however, I feel the need to address a pet peeve I have that Drew and Travis regularly trigger, and offer a friendly correction. Your usage of the term "social contract" is incorrect. The way you use it, a better term would probably be "social norms" or "social customs." The social contract, however, specifically refers to political and social theory in which members of a society explicitly or tacitly surrender some of their rights to the state in exchange for security. There is considerable discussion within social and political theory as to the relationship between natural and legal rights, as it pertains to this topic, and some theorists on the more “radical” end of the political spectrum argue that the social contract is actually a form of coercion exercised by the state. As Benjamin Franklin said: “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” Anyway, sorry to ramble. Love the show, keep up the good work!

PIG! Perceptive, Informed, Grounded
I look forward to this podcast, which happens to release just in time for the hour-long walk to my weekly improv jam session. The hosts’ enthusiasm for cinema is contagious and somehow sets a creative mood that gets me stoked to rock out. Their analysis is insightful and informed by having already watched more movies than I ever will, and I appreciate the depth and breadth of their scholarship. They stay on topic but enhance their takes with encyclopedic cross-referencing to other films. I feel like I’m learning not only about the film at hand, but cinematic technique in general and even how to get more out of movies, whether high, low, or in between. It’s time well spent. Join the club!

A Great Movie Podcast
There's a lot of "dudes-talking-about-movies" podcasts out there, but GenreVision is one of the best. The hosts, Drew and Travis, have a wonderfully warm rapport. They approach film generally and genre fiction specifically with a sincere love and genuine intelligence. This isn't a movie podcast rooted in the bitter soil of angst, cyncism and irony (like what so much of film discussion on the internet seems to be) and for that, GenreVision is a delight.

Might be my favorite film podcast of the past decade
Imagine Quentin Tarantino and Roger Avary had a podcast back in the day when they were working at Video Archives in Manhattan Beach and you could listen to these film obsessives pontificate about the weird and wonderful world of genre films and you get an idea of what it’s like to tune in to GenreVision each week. Drew and Travis’s recommendations of obscure gems you’ve never heard of from different eras in movie history as well as trashterpieces that you’ve probably only ever seen the box art for in the beloved mom and pop video stores of yesteryear have given me loads of titles to add to my list of movies to see before I die. This podcast was a pandemic discovery that I listened to on long walks with my dog Bernie and the in-depth conversations about current and classic movies are unique in the crowded film podcast world because these guys dive deep into the behind-the-scenes technical details that really enhance the listener’s understanding of the cinematic wizardry that makes these films shine. I will not stop singing GenreVision’s praises and sponsoring the show for years to come because this podcast helped me stay sane as I was working as a caregiver on the frontlines of the COVID-19 crisis in Los Angeles in 2020. After listening to Drew and Travis for the past year and half where I devoured their back catalog going back to Travis’s inaugural episode as the new co-host back in February 2016 when the show was known simply as The Drew Reviews, GenreVision has slowly but surely become my go-to film podcast and I am always waiting excitedly for the new episodes to drop on Sunday morning each week. Keep up the great work, gentlemen!

Check'em out!
Ok, so I've been enjoying Drew and Travis's podcast for some time now, and am sorry it took this long to give'em a shout out. I look forward to tuning into their show on a weekly basis and hearing two friends with good chemistry banter back and forth about movies old or new or crappy or classic . It should go without saying that I certainly don't always agree with them (that would be a tad weird, right?), but their opinions always seem to come from a well informed and honest perspective. It's easy to hear they dig what they're doing and that they're excited to be part of a show that folks enjoy Keep up the good work, fellas, as you've got an ear down in Austin!

Completely off the mark
These two wannabe-critics make the most obvious mistakes. For example, they can’t differentiate (for themselves) the difference between an actor and the roles said actor gets typecast into🤦. Additionally, they’re just bad at what they do. Listen to the Dragoslayer episode; the bit about the filmmakers not sufficiently setting up the lead character’s overconfidence is so tangential and menial that it is one of the most idiotic criticisms this listener has ever had the displeasure to hear. Don’t waste your time on this show. There are much higher quality reviewers out there.

Super informed and hilarious film podcast!
Drew and Travis really know movies and I love learning about the genre from them! From musical scores, to scripts, to the breakdown of the acts of the story they give you a pro look at an incredible variety of awesome classic flicks! I’m hooked! Great banter too!

Like an oil change for your ears
Always able to enjoy listening to both Drew & Travis talk about movies every Sundee in ways that don’t come off as scripted or just chattering to listen to their own voice, which I've heard so many other movie podcasters do and makes you feel like an outsider-yea these fellows don't do that, far from it in fact. Drew & Travis get it and know their stuff and want to share their experience with their audience and ask for their feedback as well which is welcomed and builds strong community behind their "loyal listeners" as we are. Being a movie buff is hard today when all anyone wants to see today is fast paced glamour and awe, and while there is a place for that, it is nice to hear these guys bring up movies that are under the radar while also keeping their toes in what’s going on and being released currently today. I enjoy a bad movie or two and it’s nice to hear that Drew & Travis can appreciate a laugh at the movies expense, but also highlight some serious moments both on film or bringing up behind the scenes moments that may shed a little more light on some films either you've seen already countless times, or you're sharing similar experiences as the host(s) by witnessing a new film for the first time. Even if you don't agree with their argument, both host welcome constructive feedback and in that way everyone grows in their film knowledge. Bottom line: whether you're hob nobbing with Aunt Bedelia tasting top shelf classics and gems, brewing in your own essence, or dumpster diving seeing what other man’s film trash is now your treasure, you don't want anyone else to be reviewing these movies other than Drew & Travis. I recommend the show to my fellow movie buffs I know, and they seem to love the show as well. The chemistry between the two comes off naturally and both film connoisseurs can push the envelope of what you may be familiar with or find humorous and I feel that's important in keeping things vibrant and fresh, not allowing to go stale like the old beer and pizza left out overnight. I look forward to your show every week gentlemen and wish you all the best in your future endeavors. That's the signpost up ahead next stop, Genrevision.

An absolute must for movie geeks!
I've trudged through a lot of movie podcasts and Genrevision had me hooked from the first episode I listened to. Intelligent discussions of movies that a lot of reviewers don't take the time to dive into while making it very fun and informative. Always look forward to new episodes, highly recommended!

ADDICTING “MUST LISTEN” FOR GENRE FILM FANS
Particularly given my love of, and past (and future?) involvement with, independent film, I’m a fanatic about the practical ways in which genre theory, film grammar and techniques can be used well to entertain. I ran across GenreVision simply as a search result, looking for new podcasts to go with those I already enjoy, and was hooked immediately. I’m grabbing every new show while working through the past episodes and enjoying it all immensely. The hosts are likable, very knowledgeable, and engaging. Certainly they are well-humored, but this is *not* a comedy podcast with yelling, raucous laughter, and a focus purely on how not to make a good film rather than studying what does work well. It’s like having a beer with a couple of guys who humbly, pleasantly, but very brilliantly talk about movies in ways you can understand even as it raises your film IQ with every minute. Highly recommended!

Excellent!
Well produced and thoughtful. Good chemistry between Travis and Drew, who never talk over each other, or become abrasive. Their sense of humor shines through, but avoids becoming snarky. Interesting choice of films, with intelligent arguments that I enjoy whether I agree or not. Check it out!

GenreVision
The show brings together two friends to discuss both mainstream and more eclectic titles. Their approach is honest, and infused with their love and knowledge of movies. The show is humorous without being snarky. I especially enjoy watching a movie knowing that one of their shows on it is waiting for me. Their other podcast, FinFlicks, is a must for aquatic horror fans.

Intellectually stimulating and magnetically friendly
GenreVision has been a staple of my life for many years. Hosted by two great friends and great humans, this is a film discussion podcast that absolutely should be in your feed. These guys put together excellent conversations about movies without the tedious banter that I find myself fast-forwarding through elsewhere. As a movie buff without as many movie buff friends as I’d like, I can always count on Drew and Travis to have the type of discussion that I wish I could have in-person, with equal parts opinion and analysis, humor and gravity. Have you ever re-listened to podcast episodes that you’ve already heard? That’s how listenable these guys can be. Don’t sleep on their back catalogue. If you’ve just watched a movie and have no one to talk about it with, Drew and Travis are there to be your friends.

Always on the look out for good horrorcasts that look at movies from an intelligent angle and not just ready to tear every movie to shreds for a flaw or two, and this one does just that! Thanks guys

mellow, funny, informative
(edited from my review of the old version of the show, The Drew Reviews:) I don't listen to a lot of review podcasts, because so many of them are either no fun unless you have the same tastes as the hosts, or else endless jokey hang-out shows that take forever to get to any opinions at all. There's a place for both of those, they're just not my thing. GenreVision almost always manages to stay in that sweet spot where they're hanging out and having fun while having interesting opinions about things-- both from a solid general film-lover's perspective, and as genre-loving non-toxic nerds-- and even when I may not agree, I love hearing how they got there and I often end up with a list of related things to check out.

Zardoz
I like to think that I'm personally responsible for this episode. Only goes to prove that you cannot reveiew two John Boorman movies with neither of them being Zardoz, and expect to escape unscathed. With this movie, it is vitally helpful to have assistance to help understand/contemplate what you're watching. Drew and Travis both perform admirably in this episode, and indeed all of their podcast episodes.

The only podcast I need
The Fin Flicks portion of their podcast originally brought me in (I love aquatic horror), but really everything they put out is worth a listen. They've lead me to all sorts of hidden gems I never would have heard of otherwise, helped me better express *why* I disliked a movie, and even made me appreciate movies that I didn't originally enjoy. I like hearing about technical aspects of a movie that I might not fully notice (editing, sound mix, etc), but I also like when they're just being more casual. I don't have many friends who share my movie interests, and this podcast is a great substitute for that. I would love to just sit down and chat movies with these two. If you love genre films, definitely give them a listen.

Just a ton of fun
Always a great listen. Drew and Travis are smart and knowledgeable, and their takes are always interesting. I don't always agree, and there are times when they go down rabbit holes of film that, frankly, I have no interest in, or am outright turned off by. That said, I always give it a listen. It's as important to my Monday mornings as my giant-sized Doctor Johnny Fever cup of coffee. Play on boys!!

I’ve listened to about 10 episodes..
Incredibly biased. The also have a podcast about shark movies. That should be enough to tell you that these two guys are complete troglodytes when it comes to knowing what a good film actually is. But I’d love to hear what your top 10 films are, because it’s probably a mess. Just like your podcast.

Great podcast for anyone who appreciates genre flicks!
Was recently turned on to this podcast by a friend and I really love it! I'm not well versed in cinematic language or film analysis, so it's really fascinating to hear two people who are knowledgeable in these areas break down some of my favorite films. I especially love that they have a strong focus on horror, action, sci-fi and monster movies (all of my personal faves)! The hosts have a great rapport and always aim to strike a good balance between criticism and praise, so the reviews feel very fair and well thought out. I've also ended up with several movies, shows and books added to my 'must watch/read' list based on their recommendations, which is also great. Recently watched 'A Cure for Wellness' and 'Kubo and the Two Strings' based on their recommendation and I loved both! All in all, great podcast and well worth the time if you're a movie fan. Thumbs up.

An absolute blast and must-listen for fans of genre film
I’ve not been listening to podcasts for very long. I’ve only just recently started perusing iTunes for film-related podcasts in the name of research because a friend of mine invited me to be a guest host on his show, The Gargyle Podcast, which also focuses on genre film, particularly horror. I’ve tried to listen to a few different podcasts for a variety of styles and ideas but it’s been a struggle because I can’t stop coming back to GenreVision. Drew and Travis have such a great rapport. Their conversations are entertaining and insightful in equal measure. In every single episode they somehow manage to always offer up a perspective on a film that I failed to consider. They always find some little nugget in a movie that I completely overlooked that makes me appreciate it even more. And even on the rare occasion when I don’t agree with a take that one of them has on a film, their positions are well-reasoned and the criticism is always fair and constructive. I love that they always try to strike a positive tone, even when they’re discussing films that they didn’t enjoy. The guys have a palpable love of movies and they each clearly know the medium inside and out. Their episodes are a nice mix of classics, cult favorites, and new releases. I love that they also throw in a bit where they talk about other movies, TV shows, books, music, and games that they’re currently consuming. I’ve discovered a lot of other great entertainment through this segment. It’s like the little candy surprise at the center of every tasty episode. I can’t recommend this podcast enough to movie lovers. It’s a lot of fun. In the meantime, I’ll be diving back into the archives to check out everything I’ve missed while I wait on the new episodes each week.

Easily my favorite movie podcast. Drew and Travis have an amazing chemistry that makes every episode a joy to listen to. I have discovered so many movies thanks to genrevision, and always look forward to new episodes even when I'm not familiar with the movie they're reviewing. These guys really know their stuff, and are willing to give any movie a chance, no matter the genre or reputation. Did I mention these guys are funny as hell? My first stop for genre reviews
I listen to a lot of podcasts related to genre (science fiction, horror, fantasy, weird) film, and this one is always first in my queue when it drops. The hosts are knowledgeable and thoughtful and their chemistry is always fun. I sometimes disagree with their opinions or analyses, but I feel that Drew and Travis would be up for an open conversation about such things as their genuine love for film clearly supersedes any sort of soap-boxy personal agendas. Great show.

Top notch film criticism
I discovered Drew and Travis roughly a year ago. I was immediately hooked on the way they approached film criticism because it is very similar to my own but on a much higher level. They are fans of film but also look at film as a craft and break it down as such, and in a way I find listening to them to be an education at times. I disagree with them on occasion, but even in disagreement I find their discussions insightful and worthy of merit. You can disagree with an opinion and yet still learn something. I wholeheartedly endorse their review of Hereditary. While this cleanly fits into the horror genre, it does something that many horror films can’t manage to do. Create genuine stress. And I’m not even talking about the supernatural elements. As someone who comes from a very tight-knit family, it was genuinely distressing watching the disintegration of this family unit. By the time the supernatural componenets comes into play I’m already broken for these people and then it escalates even further. I honestly wanted to the film to conclude to help me end the stress. It’s an upsetting movie. But that’s to its credit. Kudos to Ari Aster for the technical craftsmanship in this film. The use of shadows and silence to me are a deadly combination in any horror film. I’ll take unpredictable silence over a film score that presumes to tell me precisely when to be frightened any day of the week. So much more to say…performances all terrific. Collette and Wolf in particular. Give Travis and Drew your ears. They love film and it’s abundantly clear in the work they do. Keep up the good work, guys. Matt

Insightful and entertaining reviews of genre films. They cover a wide range of films and make excellent recommendations. The do a great job of detailing both the art and mechanics of the films. Congrats
First, a shout-out to my twin brother TBonesMcRoanoke for introducing me to your show. It is hands down my favorite podcast and I have gone back to listen to all your old shows. Between work, kids, and general life-stuff, I treasure my Monday commutes when I can listen to a new episode. Separately, I have tried and failed to get my wife to listen to your show. When I asked her to listen, she responded “isn’t that the movie show you listen to where that guy keeps saying ‘iconography?’” Yes it is - thanks Travis. Despite that hurdle, I was able to get her to listen to your Black Mirror episode...up to the moment where Travis said “Ludo-Narrative Dissonance” and my wife calmly picked up a book and left the room. But now thanks to your rebranding, I can try again soon. Thanks guys. Will let you know how it turns out.
