Welcome everyone to this podcast, today we will talk about the happiness of physical activity in older adults

Happiness, according to the Royal Spanish Academy of the language is the "state of pleasant spiritual and physical satisfaction". It is this precise concept that can be influenced by physical activity and not only in children or young people, it can also be highly significant for older people. That is why Danner, Snowdown and Friesen state that: "Happy people live longer and are more autonomous than unhappy people" On the other hand, in a research it was found that physical activity has a positive impact on the happiness of older adults, understood as people over 65 years old. According to Rocío Bohórquez "Older people who are physically active estimated their happiness to be higher than those who are sedentary, a relationship that is confirmed by the data when estimating their happiness at a little more than 2 points above the average".

Thus, the relationship between happiness and physical exercise in older adults is one of the best ways to improve their quality of life in the last stage of their lives. According to Rocío Bohórquez "the happiness-exercise relationship is an expression of the benefits of physical activity on the physical, psychological and social well-being of the general population and of the older population in particular; in this sense, the improvement of physical fitness, autonomy skills, self-efficacy and coping strategies could be some of the most beneficial products of physical activity for an aging with subjective well-being, although this aspect should be verified in future research.

That is why physical activity in older adults is so important, the fact of being autonomous in their daily tasks will allow them to enter a happiness in their daily lives. Not only physical activity implies a series of benefits for the organism and its relationship environment, but also for that emotional state that in this case we are dealing with: happiness; that in our last years of life, we seek precisely that; to be happy and enjoy what we have left of life. This is how exercise becomes one of the best ways for the adult to achieve that bodily autonomy that comes from exercise. It is important that, through their physiological processes, the older adult feels autonomous and thus can feel a greater happiness, as well as psychological processes that they manage to experience through some physical activity; always under the command of qualified personnel in all aspects, since at this age there are a number of pathological demands in each older person that makes greater care necessary. There is no doubt that physical activity has become a means of recreation. From my point of view, after the development of any type of well-directed physical activity in children, adults and older adults at any stage of life, physical activity generates happiness.
