Welcome back or welcome to the Full Capacity Living podcast where we engage in conversations around health and wellness, functional and integrative medicine and how to live to your fullest capacity.
Today’s podcast is no exception.
My guest is Dr. Patrick Porter of Braintap.
Dr. Porter is widely recognized as an award-winning author, educator, consultant, researcher, entrepreneur, and speaker. He is an award winning author/speaker and the founder of Braintap (R), the leader in technology-enhanced meditation. Dr. Porter pioneered the use of brainwave entrainment to improve clarity, sleep and energy and remains at the forefront of scientific research.
He founded BrainTap with the goal of making this technology accessible to everyone. BrainTap offers over 1000 original audio sessions in 12 languages and serves a worldwide user base with its mobile app and headset. Dr. Porter has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, People, Entrepreneur, INC and on ABC, NBC, CBS as an expert in brain health & wellness.
Now…if you haven’t heard of Braintap get ready to hear a deep dive into how Dr. Porter’s work is digging into the science and practical side of revitalizing your overall wellness through better brain fitness. We talk about how to activate your brain’s peak potential and tap into different neural pathways for a better and more balanced life.
Dr. Porter’s journey started with his passion for neuropsychology and for helping people become their best selves. He talks about his experience with his father growing up and how the seeds of change were planted.
Now if you listened to my last podcast with Dr. Steve Bierman, where we talked about the importance of words, language and particularly how we talk to ourselves…Dr. Porter mentions how words can change up to 2300 genetic expressions…meaning the way our genetics express themselves (the field of epigenetic really) and what if your self talk was the thing limiting you from living at your fullest healthiest self?
In this episode we will be talking about how to shift those patterns of self talk using the many programs included in the Brain tap app. We discuss his work as it relates to alzheimers and dementia, his work with Dr. Dale Bredesen and with Tom Brady in the area of brain health for athletes.
Join Dr. Porter and I for a fascinating conversation about how to change our brains, the missing piece in most of our health journey's.

Welcome back to the Full Capacity living podcast and is this one a mind blower or what?
I love digging into things in the world of health and wellness that are a bit different yet hold a lot of promise.
Well my conversation with Dr. Steve Bierman is just one of those topics
Steve Bierman M.D. received his undergraduate degree from UCLA and his doctorate from Northwestern University, School of Medicine. After completing his Family Practice residency at UCSD, he worked nearly 20 years as a board-certified Emergency Physician at Scripps Memorial Hospital, in Encinitas, California.
Here’s where it gets interesting….
His Book “Healing: Beyond Pills and Potions- “is about the impact of ideas on health and healing.”
“It also looks at the kind of ideas patients hold that often contribute to illness, or contrastingly, that can actually contribute to their wellness and overcoming whatever illness they’re fighting,” he added.
Throughout his career,Steve Bierman has incorporated medical hypnosis and neuro-linguistic programming, commonly referred to as NLP, to help patients as they prepare for surgery or other types of treatment.
“It’s fair to say the burden of scientific proof still rests on the people who are using these techniques,” Bierman said. “It would go a long way to have well designed studies proving out the points that they maintain.”
based on the results he’s been able to get using hypnosis for helping patients improve their heart rhythms, open their airways or help them through other types of procedures, “it’s very hard to have doubt whether it worked or not.”

So In this podcast alone we are talking about the oral microbiome and dental health. But it is sooo much more than that. Welcome back to the Full Capacity Living podcast!
Yes…I am still here. This last year it was necessary for me to let this go to work on my own healing and grief from the passing of my sister from breast cancer. It’s still pretty unbelievable to say out loud.
I truly believe that taking the time to work through grief is so necessary not only to our mental health but our physical health. Burying it only creates dis-ease and as a health coach who’s work is about supporting health and wellbeing in others it was imperative that I work to heal myself.
As with all things this is a work in progress but if you are here now listening to this I want you to know that I so appreciate that you have come back to my podcast. Or if you are new to discovering it welcome…check out my first season…so many great conversations.
Not a day or week went by in the last year that I didn’t think…I need to get my podcast going again but I needed to do it when I could put the energy toward this project that it deserved.
It’s truly a labor of love for me.
It’s been a year…this podcast conversation with Dr. Jill Crista was recorded about two weeks before my sister passed away. I will be eternally grateful that I could be with my sister in those last moments with her in my arms.
Supporting others to achieve optimal health has always been my passion but even more so now as there are so many ways we can discover the root cause of our health issues and live better lives.
So to that end I give you Dr. Jill Crista….she is a leading expert at the forefront of mold-related illness diagnosis and treatment.
Dr. Jill is an author, educator, and Naturopathic Doctor, and is on a mission to raise medical literacy about mold and mold-related illness. Dr. Jill now serves on the Governor-appointed Naturopathic Medical Examining Board for the state of Wisconsin.
Dr. Jill earned her Naturopathic Doctor Degree with Honors from the National University of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, OR in 2003. In 2012, she completed the Physician Training Program with the International Lyme & Associated Diseases Society. She’s always had a passion for plant medicine. In 2019, she was privileged to join her adored mentor, Dr. Jillian Stansbury, on an ethnobotany field study in the Peruvian Amazon.
She was the owner, director, and practicing member of two integrative clinics offering naturopathic medicine, integrative medicine, acupuncture, chiropractic, physical therapy, craniosacral therapy, and massage. It was here that she witnessed the efficacy and synergy of a team approach to patient care.
As a peer-reviewed published author, she’s now focusing on research, teaching, and writing, specializing in neuroinflammatory conditions such as mold sickness, brain injury, and PANS/PANDAS.
She has served on the board of the Wisconsin Naturopathic Doctors Association, as President for 6 years. She worked on the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians committee for licensure, which culminated in achieving licensure for Naturopathic Doctors for Wisconsin.
Without further delay…please enjoy this eye opening conversation where we dig into all things mold related, which is much more than you might think
Thank you again for being here…please review and subscribe to the Full Capacity Living Podcast for a whole new season of conversations.

Season 2 of the Full Capacity Podcast is live!
We are back with an incredible guest to start off the 2022 season of the podcast.
James Gordon, MD of the Center For Mind Body Medicine (CMBM) out of Washington DC joins me for a fascinating conversation.
His career spans the decades with truly innovative work in the world of psychiatry, integrative and complementary approaches to trauma. The Center for Mind-Body Medicine (CMBM) was founded in 1991 by Dr. Gordon, a Harvard-educated professor of psychiatry and family medicine at Georgetown University Medical School and former chairman of the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy, under Presidents Clinton and G.W. Bush.
In this conversation we delve into his path from traditional medical school, where he always felt a bit disconnected to the traditional medical model of patient care, to his path of learning from visionaries in the world of alternative medicine, shamanic traditions, indigenous practices, and mind body techniques.
He shares his work over the years and research in working in psychiatric hospital based units without medications or restraints and the healing that occured. His work has taken him all over the world using mind body techniques to begin healing populations of people who have experienced trauma in all areas. What he has found is that trauma, which is defined as injury to the mind body and spirit comes to everyone at some point. One of the most beautiful quotes in his book Transforming Trauma is “Trauma and suffering are the soil in which wisdom and compassion grow”.
In this podcast you will find wisdom, incredible stories and tools to take home with you and use right now. I am so honored to be starting Season 2 of the Full Capacity Living Podcast with Dr. James Gordon…enjoy our conversation…

Welcome to the Final conversation of season 1 at the Full Capacity Living podcast. This first year of podcasting has turned out to be many things. First of all an amazing experience being able to connect with so many wise guests, I’ve learned from the wisdom and work of so many in the world of functional and integrative medicine.
I have also had the opportunity to challenge myself with the editing portion of the podcast…that has been a stiff learning curve but thanks for sticking with me during the sometimes wonky editing going on!
I have also learned to cultivate patience with this project as frequently it isn’t perfect or always easy to drop these podcasts bi-monthly but so gratifying when I see it pop up on my apple podcast “just released” list.
For all of you who have been faithful listeners, commenting, rating and reviewing I am also grateful. It means a lot to have listeners that are engaged and feel they are getting something out of the conversations. That was the real purpose of the Full Capacity Living podcast…to provide knowledge and tools to help you all live your healthiest most optimized life and empower you to create health for yourself.
So as we end season 1 and take a short hiatus before season 2 starts in February I am so honored to bring back Dr. Heather Moday who started out this podcast with episode 1!! How great! The synchronicity of it…. If you are not familiar with her hop on back to episode 1 and check out her background.
She is back today to talk to us about her new book that was just going into editing the last time we talked. It is available Dec. 20th just in time for Christmas and the New Year.
A new you for the new year right?
The title of the book is Immunotype Breakthrough and she has given me a little sneak peak of the contents and I am so excited to share it with you.
Now more than ever this is truly a groundbreaking way to look at your overall immune health and how to balance a system that right now may likely be in a state of imbalance.
Heather’s background as an immunologist and functional medicine physician makes her uniquely qualified to look at the world of our immune system in a distinctly personalized way in her new book.
She presents the information in an easy to digest format that will give you tools right off the bat to create the type of environment in your body that balances your immune system and leads you to health.
We discuss the ways our bodies get pushed into imbalance, the 4 immunotypes she has created (smoldering, misguided, hyperactive and weak) which you can determine through quizzes she has in the book, how those relate to the epidemics in our country of Alzheimers, diabetes, chronic inflammatory diseases, cancer, autoimmune disease and more. We talk about the immune system itself and how it works, tools to balance, probiotics, adaptogens, medicinal mushrooms, and of course lifestyle.
So whether you are listening to this on a long drive headed home for Thanksgiving, or listening is short bits while exercising, walking the dog or cooking….get ready for an informative conversation with the brilliant Dr. Heather Moday…
So…what a truly fun conversation that packs in so much useful information to start using right now. Remember the book Immunotype Breakthrough drops Dec. 20th pick up a few copies for those you love and care about. The link will be in the show notes to purchase.
As I mentioned in the intro this is our last podcast for season 1 but please stay tuned for some great guests in 2022.
We will be talking to pioneer’s in the world of mold illness which if you don’t know anything about it you will be fascinated. We will also be talking to an incredibly special guest who is world renowned in the world of mind body medicine and trauma.
So excited for Full Capacity Living 2022.
For now…take care of yourselves, enjoy the holiday season with all those you love and I will see you in 2022 for more inspiring conversations in the world of Functiona...

Have you ever been curious about the philosophy of the ancient practice of Ayurveda? Brought into mainstream by the likes of Deepak Chopra and many others in the US.
the traditional Hindu system of medicine, which is based on the idea of balance in bodily systems and uses diet, herbal treatment, and yogic breathing.
Hmmm seems I’ve heard this systemic approach to healing in a more modern context…like Functional Medicine? As we learn…nothing is really new as the tradition of Ayurveda has been connecting gut health to many illnesses for thousands of years which is fascinating. Understanding ancient cultures and going back to the discoveries that have been around for thousands of years and coupling that with the science of today brings us closer to true healing.
My guest today is Nikki Estrada, yogi and Ayurvedic practitioner out of Marin County California. Nikki has more than 20 years teaching experience and has been leading 200 and 300-hour teaching trainings for more than 12 years. She is YA500hr E-RYT and was Director of Trainer Development for YogaWorks for more than 7 years where she supported and mentored teacher trainers. She leads intensives, immersions and workshop series in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond and lucky for my listeners she is all online now! She contributes to Yoga International where you can find her articles and videos. She is a contributor of video content on www.yogaanytime.com. Nikki was a 2016 Athleta Ambassador for embodying the Power of She, was sponsored by Zobha, a women’s athletic apparel company and has presented at Yoga Journal conferences. She was voted best yoga teacher by Marin Magazine 2016.
Today’s podcast will help you understand how the ancient principles of Ayurveda can be implemented in your own life, we talk about the history of Ayurveda and yoga, we dig into the dosha’s, finding your own natural constitution and how to balance that with nature in our ever changing world.
We talk about gut health, joint pain and their connections to our bodies being out of balance and how to correct that balance.
You will come away with practical ideas on how to figure out your dosha and ideas to balance.
As always thank you for listening and being part of my podcast journey…all ratings and reviews are gladly accepted on the apple podcast app and sharing is always appreciated.
