I am a first year student at Tarleton State and the kinesiology department never ceases to amaze me! This podcast taught me a lot about making an impact on athletes especially newer generations. We should always strive to have a good attitude, being a good human being, and treating others the way you want to be treated. It was very interested to hear Dr. Simpsons point of view and how he created EXCEL that can not only be used in the Kinesiology Department but in every program and everyday life!

Building Character
The “Winning from Within” episode was very impactful for me as Dr.Simpson is a great professor to explain character and sport ethics. He has such passion with his words and loves what he does. I like how he mentioned a recent track and field event where a young lady gets hit from the back with a baton and applies that character development and ethics to how the player who hit her reacted. Great understanding. 10/10 episode!

Character In Sport
I found this episode very insightful and powerful. Humanity as a whole has put walls up, causing seclusion. We have drifted farther and farther apart from each other; therefore, Dr. Simpson’s focus on uplifting and empowering each other is a necessary act to close the separation we have caused as a nation.

Character in Sports
This was a wonderful podcast talking about why character matters in sports. Dr.Simpson did an outstanding job giving examples and his own experiences to tell us how things are and were in the sports world.
I thought it was interesting when he mentioned that coaches and their character can change or make an impact on the players. Whether it is good or bad, they make an impact.

Character in sport
I really enjoyed this podcast. My favorite part was listening to the story where they were in Scotland and some kids were unprepared but the prepared kids came through and helped everyone out. I think character is something a lot of people don’t think of as being important in society today when actually it tells who you are and can form life long connections.

Importance of Character
The “Character in Sport” episode was very informational. I loved the dialogue between Dr. Peak and Dr. Simpson. One thing I learned and felt was very interesting is the fact that players/teams these days don’t show the level of respect and friendship that they used to. Dr. Simpson stated that this could be a byproduct of coaches and how they portray themselves to a team. Throughout my years of learning, I’ve gained the understanding that proper character in sport is essential to develop a winning culture.

Character in athletes
I thoroughly enjoyed this podcast! It really put character development and attitude in perspective for me as a former high-school athlete! One thing I liked was when Dr. Simpson mentioned “if we all walk around acting like our athletes do on the field and courts… and that filters down the society.. what kind of world is that to live in?” This is VERY TRUE. I loved how he wants to develop the foundations of character in athletes and coaches as mentioned!!! I also enjoyed the podcast in general and the speakers, how they told stories from experience. They made this podcast raw, real, and fun to listen to!

Character in sports review
After listening to the podcast one of my favorite things talked about is how much character has changed in sports. In the podcast it talks about how players develop characteristics based on what they see their coach doing which has made violence in sports increase because of what these athletes are surrounded by. The podcast mentions the more time you play a sport or the higher level you go the less moral character you have, and the less time you play and the lower levels the more moral character you have. I found this super interesting because it mentions the pressure these athletes are under to win and do whatever it takes even if it goes against someone’s moral character. Overall this was such a great podcast to listen to and I really enjoyed learning new things! Great job
