Informative and Entertaining
This is a well spoken and put together podcasting covering some of the history of freeway systems. Well worth the listen.

Brilliant podcast
Andrew does more than share a history and how it shapes the present; he weaves a narrative that strings together unmistakeable throughlines. The story he tells is poignant and important and accessible to all audiences.

Do Not Miss!!
An excellent podcast! Whether you think you know a lot about transportation planning or you’re just getting started, this podcast will leave you wanting to learn more and yearning for a better future. Great job, Andrew and team!

Really well done podcast about the true cost of freeways
Very informative - I learned a lot about San Diego’s history urban infrastructure, but also will make you think (especially if you’re listening in your car while stuck in traffic) that there are much better alternatives to car dependency. Hope a lot of people listen to this one!

Promote this podcast!
I would love to see this podcast promoted on other podcasts. It is very important for all of us in San Diego County to be educated and made aware of the implications that freeways and automobiles have in our communities and lives. Excellent!

Freeways were a mistake
Excellent educational content about the unjust history of freeways in California / US and what a better world (without them) could look like (it’s already been done before around the world!).
Podcasts for thought
I yearn to watch the freeways be destroyed
I came here with a deep hate of car infrastructure. Although this podcast did not satiate my desire to see the highways and freeways of San Diego blasted to smithereens and replaced with trains and bikeways, it did make me feel less alone in my desires

Great podcast
Well produced and will challenge the car-centric mentality of most Californians

Thought-provoking!
With all the news about climate change, this podcast covers a significant gap in our understanding of what we need to consider. Converting to all~electric vehicles can help, but will it alone improve our quality of life if we continue to build massive freeways to accommodate them? Bowen adds a thought-provoking and intelligent discussion with transportation experts and urban planners about HOW we live and what is important to us. I highly recommend this podcast!

Costs of “Progress”
Andrew Bowen and his team does a great job examining the growth of the highway system nationally and locally. The costs of the growth of our great culture are examined with a social justice lens.

This is an amazing show!
You learn about about the history of San Diego highways, and how other cities are tacking decommissioning. The host and their guests paint a bright future where we might find an alternative to the urban fabric we’ve inherited. The podcast inspired me to buy an e-bike and now I ride it to work through Balboa Park every morning!

The Sound of Freeways
Great podcast. I never knew about Southcrest freeway or how much pollution from I-5 impacted South Bay neighborhoods. The audio clips of freeway noise add to the realism of this story, which is all too real. Lots of good interviews with people in the biz and those affected by freeways. Musical theme is good and relevant, too. Looking forward to new episodes, these are long enough to keep one hooked but don’t take too much time to listen to them w/ busy schedule.

SD history via the freeway
Super interesting if you've lived in SD but still great insights for anyone interested in the road ahead when it comes to transportation

Well researched, well told
This series will be of interest to anyone who’s been to, or planning to come to, California. Or, anyone interested in urban and regional planning, the built environment, public health, etc.

Lucky us!
I am SO grateful that Andrew Bowen and KPBS put together this series. It has history, it has informed perspective, and it has human interest. If we’re even luckier, it’ll shift the balance of the debate going forward.

Entertaining and Informative!
This podcast strikes a great balance of educational information, emotionality, and storytelling on the history of freeways! A lot is brought to light in terms of the health and social impacts and it’s all told in an entertaining and succinct way.

Fun and challenging retrospective
Andrew is doing a fantastic job of taking us through the development of San Diego as we know it today. As a civil engineer, though not transportation, I have seen plenty of older projects where the perspective is to provide the best project from an engineering perspective with little social considerations.

It’s not what it said it was
I’m not really sure what this podcast is trying to accomplish. It jumps from topic to topic with no resolution. I would have loved to hear more about how the 163 was developed. But it quickly devolved into how one person wants it to be decommissioned. No counter point.

Illuminating about San Diego Transportation
I’m excited for more episodes after the release of the first two. Our society operates off of narratives and I can tell this Podcast will be enlightening for many here in San Diego. Hopefully as more tune in, we will be able to see a shift in our local consciousness concerning freeways and our lack of investment in public transit and bicycle infrastructure. Congratulations on two great episodes and I can’t wait to be notified about the next drop!

Great resource
Glad there is a podcast about how terribly designed our city’s public transit was designed. Hoping there are more voices of color in the podcast in the upcoming episodes as black and brown people were greatly affected by freeway expansion.
