Suspect and PREA Exams
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) possess skills in collecting evidence off of a person's body. Because of this, many law enforcement agencies utilize Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) centers to conduct both victim and suspect exams. Many SART centers also participate in the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), which uses SANEs to enter prisons and conduct exams any time an alleged assault occurs within a correctional facility. Sex Trafficking
"Sex trafficking is not something you can see happening across a crowded room. It is not a crime that occurs in an instant, like a kidnapping or carjacking, that a bystander can witness and report. In fact, many people in active sex trafficking situations do not recognize themselves as being victims because they have been expertly groomed by a trafficker to believe they have chosen to participate in commercial sex. Understanding how sex trafficking really works can help families and communities to recognize vulnerable people before they become victims and provide survivors with the support they need to break free, heal and move on with their lives." - Polaris Project SOURCES/SUPPORT: Polaris Project https://polarisproject.org/sex-trafficking/ Shared Hope: https://sharedhope.org/the-problem/what-is-sex-trafficking/ US Dept of State: https://www.state.gov/humantrafficking-about-human-trafficking/ CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/sexualviolence/trafficking.html https://sharedhope.org/the-problem/what-is-sex-trafficking/ National Sexual Violence Research Center (NSVRC): https://www.nsvrc.org CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/sexualviolence/index.html Buffalo Center for Social Research: https://socialwork.buffalo.edu/social-research/institutes-centers/institute-on-trauma-and-trauma-informed-care.html National Center for Victims of Crime: https://victimsofcrime.org/child-sexual-abuse-statistics/ Victim Connect Resource Center: https://victimconnect.org National Crime Victim Bar Association: https://victimbar.org Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA): https://www.samhsa.gov/find-help/national-helpline National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI): https://www.nami.org/help HOW TO REACH US: Website: forensicnursefiles.com Gmail: [email protected] IG/Facebook: @forensicnursefiles Tiktok: @forensicnursefilespod Are you a nurse or healthcare provider in the forensics field?
