The crisis we face now - persistent, omnipresent, and yet invisible - triggers not our “A-Game”, but anxiety. “Lowering the temperature” for ourselves and loved ones, and acting out of thought and not emotion, therefore becomes our responsibility, not an ‘automatic’ defense mechanism.
