Clifford Raymond Beaulieu was born in an era where the United States Government believed in the philosophy of “Kill the Indian, Save the Child.” They thought assimilation and salvation was the way to tame the wild children who lived on the reservations. What’s currently happing in Canada is America’s story too. Hundreds of thousands of Indian children were removed from the reservations and sent to residential schools. Our government believed in the philosophy of “kill the Indian, save the child.” Not all of those children made it home. Not all of those children went to a residents school, some ended up at the state school orphanage where they were contracted out as indentured servants. My Grandfather Clifford was one of those children and his siblings are missing. And this is their story, welcome to Finding Clifford.
