The Philocypher
FGC Philosophy is about leveling up inside and outside the virtual arena. Learning from Fighting Games and the FGC as a whole we can grow together. As a competitive player, I strive to always improve and I want to share that knowledge with others. I also know that what you learn in one area of your life can be applied to other areas of life.

#119. I Hosted a Collegiate Rocket League Tournament: Here’s What I’ve Learned.
Welcome to FGC Philosophy! In this episode, Tavian "The Philosopher" Napier discusses his recent experience organizing a Rocket League Invitational Collegiate tournament. He shares some of the key takeaways he learned from the planning and leading up to the event, marketing, expenses, budgeting, and communication with staff and other teams. Tavian also highlights the importance of clear communication with staff and setting boundaries when accommodating other teams. Tavian shares how budgeting was not his strongest suit, but through the experience of hosting the event, he learned the importance of budgeting and how it helped him visualize where the money was going and how much money he was generating from the event. He also talks about the production and how he and his team did well, but there were areas they could still improve upon. Finally, Tavian talks about the results of the tournament and how it was great to see some diversity in the teams participating, and he is excited to keep working on future events.   Support me on Patreon! https://www.patreon.com/Philocypher   Social Media https://twitter.com/ThePhilocypherTwitter - @ThePhilocpher www.youtube.com/thephilocypher  FGC Philosophy Discord - https://discord.gg/KfDZBrM KZOO FGC Discord - https://discord.gg/7EsnZNr   For a free month of audible go to www.taviannapier.com/audible Books I'm Currently Listening to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by: JK Rowling The Art of Learning by: Josh Waitzkin Resources for learning SFV Reddit: https://reddit.com/r/StreetFighter/ Gief's Gym Digital: http://bit.ly/giefsgym Gief’s Gym Paperback: https://amzn.to/2LV7i6v Fighting game glossary: https://glossary.infil.net/   Music Harris Heller/StreambeatsDiscord: https://discord.gg/p3j7DRh Thank you all for your continued support!

116#. My Rocket League Team Qualified for the Biggest Collegiate RL Tournament!
We've got a Huge win for WMU Esports! Intro I’ve got some big news I want to talk about today. It’s something I’m still in shock about. For context, lately, I’ve been struggling with imposter Syndrome. It’s made it difficult to better myself and reach new goals in my health and career. Despite that, I want to celebrate a major victory. Today I'm going to be talking about Western Michigan University's Esports program specifically rocket league.   Hello and welcome to FGC Philosophy my name is Tavian "The Philocypher" Napier, and this is where we level up inside and outside the virtual Arena. We do that by talking about topics that matter to me. Topics I think will help us all level up inside and outside the virtual arena. Sometimes we have guests on the show and sometimes it's just me.   Today I'm writing solo, but if you missed last week's episode be sure to check it out! on the previous episode of FGC Philosophy I interviewed ChrisCCH one of the pro players from Team CLG. he's a professional Street Fighter 5 player and he got to really break down the dynamic of Street Fighter league in that team Dynamic and playing in competing and improving.   Live Discussion with Pro Coach, Edward Cleland: https://wmich.edu/events/69513   Social Media https://twitter.com/ThePhilocypherTwitter - @ThePhilocpher www.youtube.com/thephilocypher  FGC Philosophy Discord - https://discord.gg/KfDZBrM KZOO FGC Discord - https://discord.gg/7EsnZNr   For a free month of audible go to www.taviannapier.com/audible Books I'm Currently Listening to The One Thing by: Gary Keller Resources for learning SFV Reddit: https://reddit.com/r/StreetFighter/ Gief's Gym Digital: http://bit.ly/giefsgym Gief’s Gym Paperback: https://amzn.to/2LV7i6v   Music Editor:  Discord: https://discord.gg/p3j7DRh Thank you all for your continued support!
