Dom and Joey — Xaypaseuth Xayyalath and Chanthasone Xoumphonphakdy are their given names, respectively — are both students at the National Institute of Fine Arts based in Vientiane, Laos. For MAFN, Joey had reached out to submit his and Dom's short film titled "Nowhere | ສຸນທະລີຍະສະຖານ", about a male student walking along the side of a lake, chatting with a mysterious peer. They had produced this short film last year and are underway in making a new short film. Tri and Deryck talk with Dom and Joey about their hopes and struggles as young, college-enrolled filmmakers, the challenges of reaching both Lao and non-Lao audiences, and the kind of films they'd like to make if money was no object.

A brief of what the MAFN Talk podcast series came from: This past Oct 2022, The SEAD Project hosted our Mid-Autumn Film Night, or MAFN - an indoor screen feast of Southeast Asian past, present, and futures made by SEA filmmakers near and far and was a portal for the local Twin Cities SEA community to see through the artistic eyes of SEA creatives.
