Still, Haylee affirms that you can have a powerful podcast with the right content and the right strategy that benefits and boosts your business. Haylee shares the top 3 benefits of having a podcast along with her tips on starting a podcast with what to do and what not to do.
As always, we uncover the realness of entrepreneurship, and Haylee shares with us how one of her biggest failures of losing a (really great) client gave her insight on where she could improve. After the sudden loss of a close friend, another friend of Sarah’s challenged her to a an epic sew-off as a creative outlet for the grief she was holding. Sarah’s idea was to sew a swatch onto a trucker hat. Little did she know this hat would propel her into her now extremely successful business, HEC Studio, that sells hats out of her 40 foot solar powered school bus. Sarah always knew she wanted to be her own boss and she made it happen. She knew nothing about diesel mechanics and everything about good (and sustainable) fashion style. She was confident she would figure it all out and with laser-like-vision of being a successful artist and living simply she has created her dream life. Sarah believes in the power of putting your mind to something and making it happen. She’s had people doubt her along her path and has let this fuel the fire in her to see things through.

Aislinn Chalker is a mother and the owner of Wild Sparrow Photography on the big island of Hawaii. She has been shooting family photos full-time for 6 years. Today, she talks with us about the dynamic of teaming up with your spouse to make things work, and how one of the best things you can do for your mental health and run a sustainable business is to say no to the projects your gut tells you to say no to. We touch on how real scarcity mindset is and how to manage it, the benefits of having a business besty (this one’s good!), and when and why you should outsource. Aislinn leaves us with some of her amazing advice for new (and experienced) photographers that you won’t want to miss!
Aislinn began her college studies in criminology of all things, but after taking a one-off graphic design course, she quickly found that her love for CSI wasn’t enough to keep her pursuing her intended degree. She then changed her focus to study fine arts and graphic design where her journey with photography started. Later, with her husband's encouragement, she finally let go of her steady job to fulfill her dream of being a full-time family photographer.

A subtle change in your vocabulary might just lead you to a more empowering life. If you go to bed each night mulling over the ways you feel like you fell short and didn’t finish all the things you wanted to get done, it is a good idea to ask yourself how much you use the word should when stating your goals. Using the word should in our vocabulary relinquishes our power to make decisions and leads to disappointment. By removing should, you can get out of your own way, embrace empathy, and lead with grace.
