Everything is high school everything is decks!
I have never related to a podcast more. This is a podcast for Gen X writers/creatives who are also secret (or not so secret) haters. It may be a niche but oh what a niche! There is also no other podcast as honest and real about what it’s like to be a writer/creative working person in this current hellscape.

More of Alex!
I love romolini’s new show so much. The chemistry on the episode with Alex is priceless. I just can’t describe how funny the two of you are.

Ambition Monster Returns!
After reading her excellent book “Ambition Monster” and being a huge fan of her podcast with Kim France, Girls of a Certain Age, she is back. YAY! Thank you Jen for continuing the dialogue and always keeping it real and inspiring. Your podcast is much needed and appreciated. Thank you for the sense of community here. You’re the BEST.

Exactly what I needed to hear, thank you Jenn and Glynnis for the candid conversation - every episode feels like sitting with coffee with besties.

So good
I never write podcast reviews but just listened to the Amanda Litman ep and wow. Jennifer is a great interviewer who asks the right questions and connects with her guest. The topic and conversation were smart, funny, and timely. Can’t wait to listen to the backlog.

Shows up for us at all times
It was great to listen to the EIF podcast but it is such a great surprise to be able to hear Jen on her own show at this moment. Please keep going!

Extends my sanity
I eagerly look forward to this episode each week. Stimulates yet soothes my middle aged lady brain! It’s like Jen has a portal into the marbles that rattle around my ADHD mind all of the time to help me sort it all out and puts in new, interesting ideas. Major bonus points for having on Samantha Irby who is also a fave. A worthy successor to Everything is Fine — as much as I love good banter, I really appreciate the interviews with cool people. Good extension of the themes from Ambition Monster. Keep it coming, Jen!!!

Real talk about creativity and work and fulfillment
The conversations Jenn fosters around career satisfaction and money and creativity are so deep and nuanced and smart. They’re the perfect antidote to the nonstop onslaught of hustle culture. Highly recommend if you want different perspectives on why we work and how we find fulfillment
that’s personally meaningful, not what we’re expected to (even by people who want the best for us).

Very necessary conversations
I am a huge fan of Jen Romolini; her book “Ambition Monster” led me to have watershed insights about my own relationship with work. It’s so great that she has a podcast all of her own, where she has extremely timely and relevant conversations with fascinating guests, many of whom have public media careers. I’m delighted when there’s a new episode.

If I can’t have coffee with Jenn
….then I will listen to this! While I miss Everything is Fine because I got more of Jenn’s life, I also like this podcast and the guests coming on. Interesting, funny, relatable.

The podcast I didn't know I needed
Jennifer Romolini’s Extended Scenes is a smart, soulful gem. With a blend of wit, vulnerability, and deep curiosity, she peels back what it means to work, age, meaningfully grow as our time on this blessed earth gets sadly and mercifully shorter. Every episode feels like an intimate conversation with your most interesting friend—the kind who makes you laugh and think. A must-listen for anyone craving substance without pretension.

Insightful and entertaining
Great podcast. I am enjoying the guests and the conversations and, although at times it feels that they are only relatable to those who write books and work in media, I still find some extremely insightful moments that speak to a broader and more universal audience. Just a side note in an attempt to give a different view to a comment made about academia. Although it is true that it is not the best paid job in the world and faculty politics can be hard to deal with, as somebody who has been working in academia for the past 24 years, I can attest to some really amazing things about it. In addition to the most mundane aspects such as pensions and great health benefits, summers off, and the ability to get paid while you write your books, NOTHING is better than working with young minds full of hope and ideals. We, as academics, not only help them hone skills that they will use for the rest of their lives (yes - I mean critical thinking!!!), but we also support and help them achieve their goals and dreams. We see their progress and their change and that is an incredible feeling. More than anything, working with young people (I am 60) is the best way to fight despair and negativity. They bring light and hope into these very very dark times we are living in. I think they are the reason why I still think that, despite everything, we are going to be alright. Cheers!!!

You’re back!
Glad you’re back! I really enjoyed listening to EIF I looked fwd to it every Monday and when I heard you’re taking some time off I was bummed. But I found you again! Your content is so relatable, you have a great sense of humor and your laugh is contagious. So far enjoying both interviews Samantha Irby is hilarious she needs to come out with another book ASAP.

The antidote to midlife malaise
Oh Jenn, thank you for being you and speaking out loud what all of us tired, menopausal yet still ambitious women are grappling with. Listeners, stop doomscrolling and Ezra Kleining and give yourself some uplift with Extended Scenes in your ear tubes. You’re not alone.
P.s. long time Everything Is Fine listener. Check that out too.

No one does it better
Yay Jenn yay! Honest and thoughtful and funny conversations about work and creativity and self-regard and midlife and evolving and understanding and acceptance and all the things we have to do to continue to live and show up the best we can as the world keeps on burning. More of this! Forever!
