It turns out we actually did need another podcast
I love Jason’s food writing and I love this podcast. It’s a genuinely good thing.

Ugh not the best
How many times does the host say “like” per minute? Is there any research or consideration on how to take a conversation? Maybe not going on tangents about your local bodega for 5 minutes? Host repeats once again: yeah, yeah, yeah, like, yeah.

Tried to give it time
Tried to give this time to hit its stride but it’s more shallow and uninteresting than is worth riding out

Shocked by host
This host is so bad he has turned this podcast into a comedy

So much potential
Excellent subjects and so much potential but this host is a catastrophe. He can’t form a coherent thought in a timely manner and takes up way too much time on himself..

Great guests terrible host
The host asks the dumbest questions, is too self-centered and demonstrates a lack of basic social skills with guests. Bizarre.

Great guests, terrible host
I have enjoyed J Lee’s work as a writer and critic but I’m afraid his talents don’t carry over to the podcast space. He seems unprepared for interviewing his guests, asks random and off-topic questions (ADHD medication?!) and can’t guide a conversation. The first few eps have coasted due to the charisma of the guests, but it’s really not enough to sustain my interest. I like the Feed Me project as a concept but I fear this might be a flop.

new favorite show
I don’t live in New York but this show does a good job of making me wish I did. great mix of high brow and low brow but ultimately doesn’t feel pretentious and you can tell Jason and his guests really just love food.

J Lee unmasked
First off, this feels a bit like it was recorded on a phone. There’s effectively no editing. I’m sure the sound quality will improve over time as they get off the ground. At the same time, the whole point of FeedMe (imho) is that you’re sitting in the booth right next to the coolest people in town having the cool conversation. You might not catch or understand everything, but you feel cool just by proximity. It may literally change your plans for the weekend or (more likely if you’re a parent of three little kids living on the west coast) make you pull out your City bucket list. J is awesome and a delight to listen to. I’m excited to hear his conversations for years to come as he settles into the mic.
