Intro to the Podcast!

Welcome to the Everything with Val Podcast! We talk about Life, Current Events and Travel.

Today's topic focuses on the Ride of Lifetime book by Bob Iger.

Intro to the Book and Bob Iger:

In 2005, Robert Iger became CEO of The Walt Disney Company during a difficult time. Morale had deteriorated, the competition was more intense, and technology was changing faster than at any time in the company's history. "I knew there was nothing to be gained from arguing over the past," Iger writes. "The only thing that mattered was the future, and I believed I had a clear idea of the direction Disney needed to go." It came down to three clear ideas: 1) Create the highest quality content Disney could produce. 2) Embrace and adopt technology instead of fighting it. And 3) Think bigger--think global--and turn Disney into a stronger brand in international markets ( Goodreads)

  • “True authority and true leadership come from knowing who you are and not pretending to be anything else.”
  • “Don’t be in the business of playing it safe. Be in the business of creating possibilities for greatness.”
  • “Managing your own time and respecting others’ time is one of the most vital things to do as a manager

Part II: Personal Impact

  • Crying while braaing - “Instead of toasting what had been a momentous day in my early days as CEO, we cried together over the news,
