Troy (2004)
This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris strap on some armor and discuss 2004's Troy as Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey hits theaters. Loosely based on Homer's epic poem, The Iliad, Troy stars Brad Pitt as Achilles, Ancient Greece's deadliest warrior.  Driven by the promise of eternal glory, he joins the war against Troy led by the power-hungry Agamemnon (Brian Cox), who wants to expand his control to the neighboring kingdom.  Eric Bana co-stars as Hector, Troy's best warrior and an expert tactician whose brother Paris (Orlando Bloom) kicked off the entire war by sneaking the beautiful Helen (Diane Kruger) away from her husband, Menelaus (Brendan Gleeson).  Zach and Chris discuss Achilles ' go-to lunging sword strike, the terrible advice of Troy's high priest, the seemingly casual nature of ancient warfare, the lack of anything supernatural, and more. You can watch Troy on YouTube (the TV edit) or Philo, or rent the theatrical or director's cut from Amazon, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home.  Next week, we're getting our Multipass and discussing The Fifth Element, which is returning to theaters for two nights on July 26th and 27th. Evil Dead II (1987)
This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris face some Deadites and discuss Evil Dead II, as the latest entry in the series, as Evil Dead Burn hits theaters. A "sequel" to the original The Evil Dead, the film stars Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams, who travels to a secluded cabin with his girlfriend, Linda (Denise Bixler).  After playing a recording he finds from the cabin's owner, Professor Knowby (John Peaks), a demonic evil force is unleashed that possesses Linda and tries to possess Ash.  Zach and Chris discuss how this is the middle ground between the first movie and Army of Darkness, Bruce Campbell's amazing physical comedy, Ted Raimi literally sweating buckets as Henrietta, what the Deadites/Evil actually wants to accomplish, and more. You can watch Evil Dead II (and the rest of the series) on HBO Max.  Next week, before we set out on The Odyssey, we're revisiting 2004's Troy for what happens prior to Odysseus trying to make the journey home. Independence Day (1996)
This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris celebrate Independence Day and discuss the 90s summer blockbuster classic as it turns 30. Coming from Roland Emmerich and really kicking off the 90s disaster movie boom, Independence Day finds the Earth under attack from an alien force with ships that have the ability to destroy a major city in minutes.  Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Randy Quaid, Vivica A. Fox, and Judd Hirsch are just some of the many characters the movie follows in the lead-up and then aftermath of the alien attack.  Zach and Chris discuss the marketing hype and merchandising, why Jasmine (Fox) would work a shift at the strip club when it's empty, the alternate ending where Randy Quaid's Russell Casse straps a bomb to his cropdusting plane for the final battle, Harry Connick Jr. channeling Goose from Top Gun, and more. You can watch Independence Day on Disney+/Hulu, Tubi, or AMC+.  Next week, with Evil Dead Burn hitting theaters, we're confronting the Deadites of Evil Dead 2. We want to hear your comments and feedback.  Send them all to [email protected].  Also, let us know your movie suggestions for us to discuss. Supergirl (1984)
This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris soar into 1984's Supergirl as the latest version of the Woman of Tomorrow opens in theaters. Helen Slater made her film debut as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, who heads to Earth from "Innerspace" to recover the Omegahedron, a powerful device that keeps her home of Argo City functioning.  The Omegahedron falls into the hands of Selena (Faye Dunaway), a witch who seeks to use the device's power for her own nefarious ends.  Zach and Chris discuss all the A&W and Popeye's product placement, Supergirl's biggest foe being a runaway piece of construction equipment, a large portion of the movie turning into a Porky's knockoff, Zaltar (Peter O'Toole )'s weird eagerness to be cast into the Phantom Zone, and more. You can watch Supergirl on HBO Max.  Next week, we're celebrating our Independence Day and discussing the 1996 classic as it turns 30. Brenner, working his way up the ranks while trying to take apart the mob from the inside.  Zach and Chris discuss Mark's explosive way of faking his death, Mark's love interest being a degenerate gambler, if this movie has the most driving action in an Arnold movie, the various Chicago locations, and more. Day of the Dead (1985)
This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris head into the zombie apocalypse and discuss George A. Romero's Day of the Dead, which just got a new 4-disc 4K release from Scream Factory [https://amzn.to/3S7XbAV]. The third film in Romero's zombie franchise, Day of the Dead follows a group surviving in an underground facility in Florida.  A group of scientists is studying the dead and trying to find a cure (at least one of them is), while a group of soldiers defends the facility.  When the commanding officer, Major Cooper, dies, the sadistic Captain Rhodes (Joseph Pilato) takes over, and things in the shelter quickly go downhill.  One of the scientists, Dr. Logan aka Frankenstein (Richard Liberty) has been experimenting on the zombies and has seemingly domesticated a zombie named Bub (Sherman Howard) who shows glimmers of remembering his old, human life.  Zach and Chris discuss the clashing philosophies of the different factions, the incredible special effects from Tom Savini, the variety of wacky zombies in the horde, random alligators, and more. You can watch Day of the Dead in the new 4K release or on Peacock, Tubi, Shudder/AMC+, Pluto TV, and The Roku Channel.  Next week, with Supergirl hitting theaters, we're revisiting the original 1984 movie starring Helen Slater. Super 8 (2011)
This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris head back to 1979 and discuss the team-up of JJ Abrams and Steven Spielberg, 2011's Super 8 for its 15th anniversary, and with a new Spielberg alien movie in theaters, Disclosure Day. Inspired by movies like E.T., The Goonies, and Stand By Me, Super 8 follows a group of friends filming a zombie movie in their small Ohio town.  While filming a scene at the local train station, the group witnesses a massive train crash and eventually learns that an alien has escaped and is wreaking havoc on the town while the Air Force tries to cover everything up.  Zach and Chris discuss whether the alien is actually misunderstood or really evil, how the movie melds the styles and themes of Abrams and Spielberg, Kyle Chandler being a supercop, how horrific the death of Joe's (Joel Courtney) mother at the steel mill was, and more. You can rent/buy Super 8 from Amazon or Apple TV.  Next week, we're trying to survive the zombie apocalypse of George A. Romero's classic Day of the Dead, which is getting a new 4K release. Everything Action Commentary: Hitman: Agent 47 (2015)
For the latest Everything Action Commentary, Chris is joined by special guest Addam to watch the 2015 video game adaptation, Hitman: Agent 47, as Hitman developer IO Interactive launches its new game, 007 First Light. In the second attempt to bring Agent 47 to the big screen, Rupert Friend takes over from Timothy Olyphant as 47, the genetically enhanced assassin.  In a twist on Terminator 2, 47 is initially set up as the villain, with John Smith (Zachary Quinto) rescuing a girl named Katia (Hannah Ware), whose father Litvenko (Ciarán Hinds) created the Agent program that birthed 47.  Smith is actually an evil, even more enhanced super soldier, and the two battle it out.  While watching the movie, Chris and Addam discuss how John Smith immediately reveals he knows everything about Katia's father, the unrealistic helicopter physics, the extremely rushed explanation of how Agents are made, and more. You can watch Hitman: Agent 47 on Hulu or rent/buy it on Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango, and sync the movie with the commentary track to watch along.
