A must for ELD teachers
In the most recent episode of Equipping ELLs, host Beth Vaucher tackles the challenge many of us face: how to engage every multilingual learner in a meaningful way during peer interaction. She introduces four practical cooperative-learning structures (drawn from Kagan strategies) that scaffold participation so that all students—from newcomers to more advanced ELLs—can contribute without being left out. What I found particularly helpful: The structures are clearly explained and classroom-ready—no “maybe someday” ideas, but tactics you can implement right away. Beth emphasizes keeping scaffolds flexible so that students can take the lead in their learning rather than feeling like passive participants. The tone stays teacher-to-teacher: realistic, encouraging, and mindful of our busy planning schedules. If you’re looking for ways to boost peer talk, increase student output, and deepen engagement without adding more work for yourself, this episode is worth the 27 minutes of your time. I walked away with three tweaks I plan to try next week in my classroom.

A Must-Listen for Every ESL Teacher!
I absolutely love the Equipping ELLs Podcast! As an itinerant ESL teacher traveling between schools, this podcast has become my daily companion on the road. I listen every day on my way to my next school—it keeps me inspired and full of new ideas to try with my students. The latest episode about using Kagan Cooperative Learning strategies was such a great one! I often find it challenging to keep all my ELLs engaged in a short amount of time, and these 4 practical strategies really hit the spot. They’re easy to implement, help boost participation, and truly give students a voice in their own learning. Thank you for always sharing such helpful insights that make teaching more meaningful and my classroom time more productive. This podcast reminds me why I love what I do!

Exactly what I needed
Equipping ELLs is my weekly dose of clarity and encouragement as the only ML teacher in my middle school. Beth’s insights are practical and grounded. The episode with Beth Skelton and Tan Huynh on experienced multilinguals was especially eye opening and even convinced me to buy their book. Every time I listen, I come away more confident and inspired to meet my students’ unique needs.

Finally!!
I have been searching for 2 years for the perfect approach to teaching new comers. I am a retired teacher living in the Houston area where new comers are plentiful. Beth Vaucher’s Equipping New Comers is compassionate and practical and can be adapted to target older students. Her approach removes the fear from learning a new language!

Very practical ways to support ELLs
I first joined Equipping ELLs in fall of 2023. I renewed in fall 2024. All the materials are absolutely amazing. The podcast provides very useful extra support advice. Beth has put it altogether for supporting Ells and I have learned so much from her website and podcast. It all goes way beyond a curriculum. It’s materials, how-to and encouragement.
