At 8:15 am on August 9, 1945, Ground Zero in Hiroshima was Shima Hospital, 330 yards from the intended target, the T-shaped Aioi Bridge. The “Little Boy” atomic bomb exploded directly overhead by approximately 660 yards. The explosion created temperatures between 3,000 and 4,000 degrees Celsius near the hypocenter, killing everyone nearby instantly.
