Don't Podcast Dead Inside
Meaks and Margot
A podcast re-watching The Walking Dead, from the beginning, with two queer feminist playwrights who have a lot to say about horror, masculinity, and the women of the apocalypse. But mostly we're discussing who can get it and who should get it.
S1.06 TS-19
Margot and Meaks talk about the season finale of season one, “TS-19.” We focus a lot on the choice that the writers finally force the characters to make. We also discuss the show’s shitty categorization of suicide as “opting out” and what that means for the treatment of future storylines. We unpack the sacrificial lamb of Jacqui and how they could do her so wrong. And of course, we talk about how we feel about the sexual assault depicted in this episode. Other tangents include: what the hell is the military doing?, the first seven issues of the comic, Titanic!, the obsolescence and stupidity of fossil fuels, Spring Awakening, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, dead bodies, and all.the.fanfictions.about.showering.Zombie - Music by Gvidon from PixabayZombie - Music by Gvidon from PixabayEmail us at [email protected] us on Twitter @dontdeadpod and Instagram @dontdeadpod

S1.05 Wildfire
Margot and Meaks discuss season one, episode five of The Walking Dead  “Wildfire.” We pick apart the different approaches to the treatment of the dead we knew vs. the dead we don’t and also the distinction between dead and walker. We get kind of philosophical about burial rites in general and judge how other people are dealing with it or not. Other tangents include:  Jessica Mitford and Caitlin Doughty, that Community episode about a Zombie outbreak, Military might vs. Scientific sight, Antigone, our feeling about the obsolescence of cars, and the timeline of outbreaks now that we’re all pandemic experts. Zombie - Music by Gvidon from PixabayEmail us at [email protected] us on Twitter ...

S1.04 Vatos
Meaks and Margot talk about season one, episode four of The Walking Dead  “Vatos.” We discuss the politics of being a good guy or bad guy and how the show attempts to complicate that but yah know, it’s really clunky in this one. We also talk about worlds built on grief and the terror of digging holes. Please don’t dig holes for your own safety. And please, for the love of god, do not quote Faulkner. We also made a bingo card for our own amusement and check boxes on it sporadically throughout the episode! Other tangents include: Dick measuring!, Ling Ma’s Severance, Newsies!, Daryl’s guns, office supply plans, more racism in the apocalypse and missed opportunities to unpack it, clambakes, and the trauma of teamwork. Zombie - Music by Gvidon from PixabayEmail us at [email protected] us on Twitter ...

S1.03 Tell it to the Frogs
Margot and Meaks talk about season one, episode three “Tell it to the Frogs.” This is our first episode with Carol and Daryl and WE. ARE. HERE. FOR. IT. We deep dive into T-Dog’s lack of interiority while we examine one of the big problems of the early seasons of TWD (spoiler: it’s racism). We discuss domestic abuse and how useless cops are, especially in situations in which they feel de-powered and then try to exert their power over others. We can’t not talk about the ongoing problem with gender dynamics! We also fight over the inconsistencies around Lori’s character and Meaks’ struggle to like her. Other tangents include: toxic masculinity, Dale being the worst, this show’s love of reunions after splitting the party, Earnest Goes to Camp, irons!, butt pats!, and who’s the top in feral Daryl and Shane fanfiction?Zombie - Music by Gvidon from PixabayEmail us at [email protected] us on Twitter ...

S1.02 Guts
Meaks and Margot talk about season one, episode two of The Walking Dead, “Guts.” We spend a lot of time talking about racism (and costume choices) as we unpack Asian and Black stereotypes and what we think The Walking Dead is trying to do with its discussions around race, even if it’s clunky as fuck. Other topics and tangents: sexy scares in an apocalypse, a really muddy Andrea, weapons, walker dissection, Southern weather, a glasses-wearer's role in survival, and is Glenn the best character of all time (yes). We regretfully did not talk about the AggroCrag, but there’s always next time. Zombie - Music by Gvidon from Pixabay Zombie - Music by Gvidon from PixabayEmail us at [email protected] us on Twitter ...

S1.01 Days Gone By
Our first episode! Meaks and Margot talk about what made them fall in love with The Walking Dead and, in Margot’s case, what made her stop watching and why we’re committed to this re-watch. Tangents and other topics we hit on are: fan fiction, horror, playwriting, copaganda, gender politics, nurses stowing matches in highly-oxygenated environments, the sexiness of Andrew Lincoln and Jon Bernthal, critical disability studies, and understanding the South.  Zombie - Music by Gvidon from PixabayZombie - Music by Gvidon from PixabayEmail us at [email protected] us on Twitter ...
