Ep 40 Leadership- What Defines You
Today’s episode is going to address leadership, our character, values, and what defines us. You will ask and answer the question of what defines you. We talk about leaders and leadership, but do we truly know what leadership is and what it means to be a leader? If you look in a dictionary for the definition of leadership it will only confuse you. We usually think of certain traits and characteristics when we hear the word leader. We think of the men and women that we admire. You don’t become a great or even a good leader overnight. It takes a few or a lot of rounds in life’s boxing ring. When you look at yourself what do you think that other people think and say about you? Would they follow you? Do they follow you? Beyond the social media following? In this episode we discuss and explore everything from the highs and lows in leadership during this COVID-19 pandemic, the trending scandals, and how individuals and businesses are addressing and leading in response to racism and bigotry. We talk about a Baton Rouge pastor defying state law to open his church during the pandemic, CEOs and executives risking their companies millions of dollars due comments made about the stockpiling crises in the US, and we share common examples of unethical practices that some people don't see as a violation of ethics and morals. You may pause when you hear an example of something that you or someone that you know also have done. It may make you question your ethics, morals, values, and character. We discuss the multilayers of our lives, our personalities, and what we share publicly and privately. We go deep in today's conversation. So roll up your sleeves and join us!SHOW INFORMATION:Company: Foreman & Associates, LLCWebsite: ForemanLLC.comIG: @ForemanLLCFB: @ForemanAndAssociatesTwitter: @ForemanLLCPodcast Twitter: @ItAintSmall YouTube: user/ForemanAssociatesHOST: Natasha L. Ep 39 Business As a Foundation For Adults and Children
There is not one career in the world that does not need business principles to succeed.Architect, scientist, astronaut, politician, pastor, hairstylist, barber, dentist, lawyer, doctor, construction worker, flagman, event planner, engineer, computer programmer, gamer, coder, graphic artist, seamstress, cosmetologist, athlete, entertainer, artist, etc.K-12 education needs to be overhauled to make it real, relatable, and relevant for students now and in the future. What are we truly preparing them for? Test-taking? Scale back those tests for the love of life and sanity.Schools removed agriculture, horticulture, home economics, and other life skills courses when one of the biggest industries in the world is agribusiness. And we have a lot of young people who grow up to be adults that lack the skills to survive and maneuver in life. They can't budget, don't know how to invest, are clueless about cooking, and can't hem a pair of pants. People are pursuing college degrees and careers without also getting a strong business background to support their goals. Athletes majoring in fields that they aren't prepared to pursue if their athletic career doesn't land them a multi-million dollar lifestyle. Music, TV, film, and sports industries have businesses that thrive but a large percentage of their talent is collateral damage, due to not knowing business.Struggling artists struggle because they don't know business. That is why their art sells for thousands and millions after they pass away, because a business person did what they do best.A great cook opens a restaurant with no restaurant management experience, no business management experience, and that restaurant faces a painful death.Listen to Episode 39 as Natasha dives deep and heavy into these areas and more. She shares her 17-year experience in the music industry and the issues then and now that continue to plague "creatives". She shares her experience as a management consultant and professor, and her conversations with college students and clients. She shares her experience with developing a youth entrepreneurship program for global nonprofit, Operation HOPE, and her passion for helping young people to learn to be more entrepreneurial—even if the goal is to work for someone else's company. She shares her advice on how schools, colleges, programs, and families can make significant changes to improve the odds of success. This episode speaks directly to parents and addresses the traps, pitfalls, and mistakes that parents and their children are making, and why parents need to do a better job of building and strengthening honest and transparent relationships with their children—that will uplift, empower, and encourage their children to make common sense and business-minded decisions that protect them more than the smothering, over-protective, and other ineffective ways that parents parent. This episode is bound to stir up conversation and have you emailing or DMing our team. We hope that it inspires and encourages you and your family to see your personal, academic, and professional lives through a business lens. And then proceed accordingly.
