HDTGM sent me Here!
The Most recent episode of HDTGM sent me here w/a quickness! I’ve been a fan of DOOM since I graduated in 2002! Jason Mantozukas(I have no idea how to spell his name) recommended this podcast! I love and click w/about 95% of his recommendations! I fantastic podcast!
Excellent Music Pod
🔥
I NEVER do this, I never write a review in anything but this was a MUST. I just found this podcast yesterday by chance and I can honestly say it’s within my top 3!! I started with MF Doom and I haven’t stopped listening. The depth of the songs, the artist, the albums!! It’s like I can feel the emotion of the artist while the host literally dissects their journeys not just as artist but human beings. I can’t wait to listen to the rest and hopefully there’s more to come🤍

Granular Inspection & Appreciation
This podcast goes incredibly deep into some really choice creative and critically successful music projects with an undeniably cool selection of the greatest artists this side of the 1970s. They really do a lot of research, including some niche and eclectic sources plus their own in-depth knowledge/appreciation for each project. I had heard it before, but when they started the MF DOOM season I was truly blown away by their sourcing of rare DOOM interviews from long-discontinued magazines and videos deeply buried in the internet. Bravo!

Experiencing for the first time, again.
Just finished the first season and it’s like re-experiencing TPAB all over again with fresh perspective. A must listen.

Incredible podcast. I’m glad he’s picked so many amazing albums to dissect. Maybe I’m just lucky because Radiohead is my favorite artist and Kendrick is my secound favorite 🤩

This is a great podcast
I heard and read the MF Doom story before. This was different. I am really rooting for the masked villain. I’ve listened to the kick off episode three different times.

Sublime (not the band)
Dazzling. Technical. Vulnerable even. Somehow you’ve made great music into an even deeper pleasure. It’s analysis that adds rather than flattens. Like others, the Reckoner episode brought tears to my eyes. Never imagined a podcast about an album could take me to so many places or hit me so hard. The musical analysis is astute and revealing. I’ll never hear the music the same way again. I’m in rainbows…virtuosic!

Amazing! I’d be interested in hearing a revisit to GKMC and TPAB post Steppers considering the introspection and revelations from that album as they pertain to his childhood and that time in his life.

Perfect 10. Fascinating.
His research and analysis is exhaustive/in depth making the presented material very good at keeping your attention. This team also has a gift at explaining complex musical concepts to both musicians and non-musicians at the same time while not losing one or the other. Love it

Came for Radiohead. Might stay for others…
This podcast is such an immense joy. I love how insanely in depth it is, and explained in a way that even us non-music theory people can understand. I always just kind of felt Radiohead’s brilliance in their music without understanding really why, but Cole gave me concrete evidence to it. What a gift! Inspired to listen to other seasons now!

In Rainbows - AMAZING SEASON
Interesting, inspiring, analytical. Please please please do more Radiohead analysis in future seasons. Wonderful, enjoyed every minute.

Radiohead yes. The rest no.
In Rainbows is a surprising choice but I enjoyed this season a lot. I couldn’t care less about the albums from earlier seasons.

Life Enhancing
This is quite easily the best pod I listened to in 2023. Radiohead has been my favorite band since discovering them in 1999, and after listening to all the episodes I like them even more. This season of Dissect (my first listen) is expertly produced and analyzed. I bet I’m not alone saying the Reckoner episode was my fav. It honestly brought me to tears at times. So well done! Nice work Cole!

Incredible Work
As a lifelong Radiohead fan, that has listened to their albums countless time, this last season is making me feel like I’m listening to “In Rainbows” for the first time, and has made me respect the band even more.

Loving the In Rainbows season
This guy knows his stuff. The re-creations of the individual track stems take this podcast to another level. Incredible. Too bad he already did Frank Ocean. Would love to hear a similar analysis of Blonde.

Just finished the last episode of you In Rainbows season and I just want to thank you for you craft and insight. It was great!!!

Sets a new bar for music podcasts
I have never learned so much from a podcast. The attention to detail and thoughtful production of this podcast are on par with In Rainbows. Thank you for all the incredible work it took to make this happen.

Wow. Just…wow.
Weird fishes /arpeggi was my first ever listen after being referred to this podcast by a fellow musician friend. I’m seriously impressed. You got yourself a new lifetime listener. Bravo!

Phenomenal!!
I love music, in general, and Radiohead, specifically, and this podcast is amazing! Cole and his team do a great job of breaking down each note and lyric. It’s fascinating to dig this deeply into the music. My only complaint is that I want Cole to analyze all my favorite albums.

Wow
This show is so well done and exactly the type of music breakdowns that I love! Thank you!

My New Favorite Podcast
As someone who loves to truly dive into albums and understand their purpose and meaning, Cole, the host of the show, does an excellent job of explaining everything about how a song comes together. Everything from the situation of the artist at the time, to different chords and patterns, and even the samples in their original context. I have only just started listening to Dissect and just finished listening to seasons 1 and 2 which has greatly improved my understanding of TPAB and MBDTF. I cannot recommend this podcast enough, I hope that Dissect is able to continue to grow so that more people are able to learn more about their favorite albums. Keep up the excellent work!

Stick to music theory
I like when he breaks down instrumentals but I can’t help but cringe sometimes when it comes to breaking down lyrics

My fav pod season of all time
The dissection of In Rainbows is equally beautiful and precisely analytic in its depiction of the many little details that make this album so brilliant. The Reckoner episode might be my favorite 45 minutes of podcasting I have ever heard. The breakdown of the middle section is tremendously emotional and gorgeous.

Amazing!!!
I loved Radiohead before I listened to Cole break things down. Now I love them even more. I’m listening to the songs with a completely different ear. Cole is amazing. I thought I knew a little about music but now I know even more.

Learned so much
In Rainbows is one of my favorite albums by one of the greatest bands ever. I love music but I’m not a musician. The in-depth analysis of every aspect of each song is fascinating. From lyrics to time signatures to esoteric instruments used. So interesting.

Amazing in depth music podcast
Blown away by this podcast. For this season they took In Rainbows an album I’ve loved since its release and break it down in fascinating ways track by track. I’ve loved Radiohead for half my life, but until this podcast never realized how much I’d under appreciated their genius.

Incredible music theory and insight
One of my all-time favorite podcasts for anyone fascinated by the way musicians intentionally structure their work into an art form, studying the actual techniques behind the sonic tunnels and trap doors that infiltrate your brain. Source deformation…terminal climax…the devil’s chord…. It’s all here illuminated by a meticulously obsessive host (the only kind you want for this sort of thing). Listening to Dissect has helped me hear brand new patterns in some of my favorite albums. Thanks for the revelations!

Amazing
An approachable technical analysis almost written in prose. This would be an entertaining podcast even if I didn't love Radiohead.

Perfect For Every Music Fan
I can’t say enough good things about this podcast. As a lover of all things music, this podcast gives an in depth explanation about music and how your favorite songs and albums came to be and it all makes perfect sense! Wanna talk about lyrics? This is it. Wanna talk about chords and strings? This is it. Wanna talk about music elements, melodies and timing? This is it. Wanna talk about sampling? This is it. Wanna talk about why music feels good and how it directly connects to our brains and why it creates chills and goosebumps? This is it. There are episodes that moved me to tears when learning intimate details about songwriting, the meanings of lyrics and the recording process that evokes intentional emotion. There are episodes that I had to rewind what was said because it was beautiful to hear. Yes, this is a long review, but Dissect is pure gold in audio form and should listened to by anyone who enjoys music, period.

Beyond Great
This is by far one of my favorite shows. It has taken artists, albums, and songs I already loved and respected and add so much to them. I wish there was a “companion season” to go along with all the music I listen to.
Hakukage
Generally quite good
The term “creative genius” maybe gets dropped 4-5 more times per episode than I care to hear, but the show overall is quite good. I think episodes are at their strongest when discussing the artist history and backgrounds surrounding lyrics or production choices but it also gets dangerously close to just pure hero worship a lot of the time.

Whoa whoa whoa there are genres other than hip hop?

Radiohead excitement

My favorite podcast ever!
I think it’s so cool to get long forum analysis about the music we all hold close to our hearts but what’s even cooler is to have it done by someone who does it in a way that’s not only informative but with such care and admiration. Cole, you’re the best!

Keep going
I love this stuff. I love how you take the time to break down albums and songs because it deepens the experience of musical enjoyment. Suggestion: Could you get a Spanish speaker to break down some Spanish albums like this? Bad bunny, J Balvin, etc… they put some heavy work into their albums and stories and I think it would be great to hear your take on this

Macs part 3 album Oblivion
First off great podcast! Thank you. I’ve heard you guys mention a few times about what was going to be after the Circles album. It was in the Jon Brion interview about Mac Miller, I believe, he mentions Mac was either in the process or was going to record a part 3 album titled Oblivion. It was going to be all rap. So it was going to be Swimming in Circles in Oblivion. Side note, it makes me wonder if that’s what the songs programs and buttons was originally going to be for?

Burning through this podcast
A friend recommended this podcast to me the other day and I haven’t been able to stop listening to it. I started with the first season bcs I love Kendrick Lamar and it really sheds a light on so many things that I hadn’t picked up before. It’s fascinating and makes me appreciate the genius of Kendrick Lamar even more than I already did. I’m so happy that I have so many more seasons to listen to!!!!

The cognitive dissonance is real
The tag line for this podcast is “because great art deserves more than a swipe,” right? The decision to become a Spotify exclusive spits in the face of that slogan. How can you claim to be giving art the time it deserves while being exclusive to a platform that if not invented, at least popularized the very thing you’re trying to combat? The cognitive dissonance is real. I don’t understand. Cole, if you read this, please consider Patreon when your contract with Spotify is up. Your fans are willing to pay for this podcast. It’s too good to be held hostage by a corporation.

Thorough interrogation of hip-hip classics
Dissect is a thoughtful consideration of hip-hop and R&B classic albums that is contextualized with regards to the era and personal lives of the artists involved. Given its focus and subject matter, it would be really great to see a season of Dissect that is finally dedicated to reviewing an album by Eminem, the most prolific hip-hop artist of all time. After eight seasons, an analysis of any one of Eminem’s three classic albums is long overdue.

Rediscovered my love for rap!
I dabble in rap now with Kendrick, J Cole, NAS, and a few others. I kind of thought the genre was dead for the most part, but Dissect has made me fall in love with rap music again. It helps understand what is a great art when there’s an abundance of information pulled into a four minute song! I can’t wait to burn through the new season!
