Free Speech/Freedom of Speech: the right to express any opinions without censorship or restraint.
Book bans? Congresspeople being removed from the floor? Gutting public education? The USA is a hot mess right now. A country that prides itself on freedom is being influenced and led by a small minority controlling, harming, and misleading so many of us. Let's talk about how free speech is being attacked and how political leaders, figureheads, and influential people are engaging in insidious ways.

Cancel Culture: the practice or tendency of engaging in mass canceling as a way of expressing disapproval and exerting social pressure.
You probably are not very active on the internet or with any media if you have not heard the term "cancel culture" thrown around. This is a fascinating topic that is decisive across all demographics. Today we discuss a brief history and our personal understanding of cancel culture. We also explore how, when, and why it has transformed over the last decade.
Access research paper on cancel culture here.
Note: at the time of recording/publishing this episode we want everyone to take time and space to take care of yourselves. There have been multiple mass shootings, the murder of Tyre Nichols recently occurred, and there are countless bills being proposed to harm people. We encourage those we are able to keep fighting and also make sure you are able to survive as well.

Hello!
Checking in at 8:36 PM on New Years' Eve 2022. We are excited about what next year will bring and want to let any and everyone listening know that we intend to commit more time to this podcast and to be more consistent. No, this is not a "resolution" it just so happens we are making these decisions around the start of 2023... okay... :D
We want to expand beyond single words and might have more direct references to topics but our intention is to keep it similar. Dirty Words is just a few friends talking about their thoughts and opinions on pop culture and politics. Occasionally we hope to bring in guests as we did with our Suicide episode because there are a lot of other people who have really important things to say and share.
Thank you for joining and/or sticking around and get ready for Season 2 of Dirty Words!!

Roe /rō/
From Roe v Wade "a landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in which the Court ruled that the Constitution of the United States generally protects a pregnant woman's (person's) liberty to choose to have an abortion"
Link to Reproductive Justice Resources
F*** it. That is all we can really say. There has been a lot going on politically from hate crimes to mass shootings to Republicans wanting to know what is in children's pants. The Supreme Court of the United States has spent the end of its session pushing through some of the most egregious decisions we have seen in our modern time. From federally allowing concealed carry to demanding states fund private religious schools to Roe v Wade being overturned. SCOTUS is not ruling on any logical interpretation or for the people, they are judging based on their religious brainwashing and based on who is lining their pockets. We are f***ing over it. In this episode, we kind of just rant about what is happening but also give some action ideas for those that make it to the end. Please stick with us-- be mad with us. This sh*t is about to break (if you get the reference you're a real one).
*An Important note we mentioned in the podcast-- repo rights are about all genders. Abortions are about people with uteruses. This is not just solely about cis women. Within hours of the ruling, we have already seen them threaten marriage equality, contraception, and queer sex.

NFT/ˌen-(ˌ)ef-ˈtē /
"a unique digital identifier that cannot be copied, substituted, or subdivided, that is recorded in a blockchain, and that is used to certify authenticity and ownership (as of a specific digital asset and specific rights relating to it)"
Welcome back with all three of us!! NFTs otherwise known as nonfungible tokens are not only hot in pop culture but in the future of currency and good exchange. Some of you might be experts congratulations on that! We are not. We did what research we could and tried to piece it all together, it is not that simple but somehow has become the measure for modernized people-owned currency, art, and goods. Sit back, relax, and say what the f*** with us as we work through what NFTs are and what their current impact is. For those that are going in with strong opinions just know all three of us are fans of technology advancements and equal access to goods and services, we are just a bit... confused? Come be confused with us and let's talk about why digital images are selling for 91 million dollars. Yes $91,000,000 all those zeroes are correct.
