It went on for three years and David sought God for the reason.Apparently Saul killed the Gibeonites who Israelites had a treaty covenant with.David had a peace consultation meeting with the Gibeonites and arrangement was made for compensation.Saul’s family paid for his foolishness.The people of Israel paid for Saul’s disregard for covenant.
