Daily Counsel With Dag Heward-Mills FLESHLY DESIRES READ: Ephesians 2:1-13 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. John 3:6 After you are born again, you become a spiritual baby who is dominated by the flesh. Spiritual babies are just like unbelievers who are religious! An unbeliever is someone who has not received Jesus as his Saviour, is not born again and does not know Christ. However, there are religious unbelievers, who go to church. They sing hymns, and they pray before they set out on a journey. Such unbelievers, although religious, are actually not born-again Christians. Some time ago, I was religious. I prayed every day. I went to church on Sundays, but I did not know Jesus Christ as my Saviour. I was a religious unbeliever. An unbeliever is someone who fulfils the desires of his flesh and his mind. He does whatever comes to mind and follows every natural urge and feeling. That is exactly how spiritual babies are. They cry and complain all the time. They do not restrain themselves when they have sexual urges and desires. They fulfil every desire they have. Spiritual babies also pray and go to church. In this regard, spiritual babies and religious unbelievers are very similar. There are many people we encounter, and we are not sure whether they are Christians or not. They could either be religious unbelievers or tiny spiritual babies. Ask yourself today, “Am I a spiritual baby?” If you are born again and you are still fulfilling all your fleshly desires, then you are a tiny little spiritual baby. Daily Counsel With Dag Heward-Mills GROWING GOD’S READ: Isaiah 43:5-7 Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: ALL THEY GATHER THEMSELVES TOGETHER, THEY COME TO THEE: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side. Isaiah 60:4 In this amazing prophecy, there is a prediction that your spiritual sons and daughters will come from far. There will be a great gathering of the people that God is using you to minister to. All through the book of Isaiah, you see predictions of the church being built. In this wonderful church building prophecy, your church members will come from all four corners of the world. You will be amazed by how people will come from everywhere to listen to you preaching the word of God. People are going to come from every corner to fill the seats in your church. Let us believe that these prophetic words are real. These church building prophecies are the words of famous Jewish prophets. The greatest Jewish prophet of all was Jesus Christ. The prophet Ezekiel also prophesied that God will build His church. Thus saith the Lord God; I will yet for this be enquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for them; I WILL INCREASE THEM WITH MEN LIKE A FLOCK. Ezekiel 36:37 In this marvellous prophecy, Ezekiel declared the church of God will be built and become like a flock. Whatever you have will be increased. It will grow. It will get bigger! You will have more! You must believe it in your heart and you must expect it! You do not have to steal somebody’s flock. You do not have to destroy somebody’s church. Daily Counsel With Dag Heward-Mills PREVAILING BLESSINGS READ: Genesis 49:22-26 And their seed shall be known among the Gentiles, and their offspring among the people: all that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which the LORD hath blessed. Isaiah 61:9 To be blessed by God is to experience His goodness and favour on your life. You prevail in life by blessings. Joseph was hated by many people! The archers shot at him. He was accused of being a tell- tale. He was thrown into a pit and sold as a slave. He was accused of attempting to rape his master’s wife. He was thrown into prison. When he interpreted a dream successfully, it still did not make a difference to his life. Few people overcome such odds. To prevail means to prove superior in strength and power. To prevail also means to continue to exist. Joseph prevailed by the blessings that he received from his father. The blessings he received were prevailing blessings. The prevailing blessings of God will cause you to exist when you should have been wiped out. You are distinguished from others by blessings. You will be distinguished from your colleagues, your family and your friends by the grade of blessings on your life. Jacob received the highest grade of blessing. Esau also received a blessing, only it was of a much lower grade: Genesis 27:37-41. Esau hated Jacob because of the low-grade blessing that he received from his father as he knew it would determine his rank and status in this life. Jacob had been totally distinguished from his brethren by the superior grade blessing he had received. You are recognized in life by your blessings. Isaiah prophesied that you would be recognized. Daily Counsel With Dag Heward-Mills ESTABLISHED BY GOD READ: 1 Samuel 3:19-21, 2 Samuel 5:11-12 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you. 1 Peter 5:10 Establishment means to make something stable! Establishment means you have become permanent! Establishment means you are settled in a position! Establishment means you are accepted and recognized! Establishment means to gain control of something! God establishes people! He makes them permanent, stable and settled. That is exactly what He wants to do to you in Christ. There are wonderful examples of people who God established. God established Samuel as a prophet. He also established David as a king. He can establish you in whatever role He has placed you. He can establish you in Christ. Don’t you want to be a stable and permanent Christian? Don’t you want everyone to accept and recognize you as a believer? Don’t you want to gain control of your spiritual life so that you can grow in the Lord? See how the Lord established His servants Samuel and David. Samuel was established as a prophet. From that time there was no question that Samuel was a prophet. David was established as a king over Israel. David’s children were established as the future leaders of Israel. God has established the earth. The earth is an established planet. This is why the planet is stable in its seasons and cycles. We all know what to expect on this amazingly stable planet that rotates about the sun along with the other planets. Today, God is in the business of establishing you as a Christian. Daily Counsel With Dag Heward-Mills PRACTICAL TIPS 12th July, 2022 READ: Esther 6:1-12 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. Matthew 17:5 How do you acknowledge someone and show him honour? Here are a few useful tips to help you do so. 1. Honour someone by making public mention of the person. When you mention a person’s name in a speech or a sermon, you honour the person. 2. Honour someone by publicly acknowledging his presence. Mentioning that a person is present at a meeting is a way of recognizing someone. Recognizing your presence at a meeting is a form of recognition and therefore a form of honour. 3. Honour someone by giving an award. Being given an award is a sign that you are recognized. If awards are given to others, but not to you, in spite of your great achievements then you are being dishonoured. Your achievements are not recognized. 4. Honour someone by inviting him to be a speaker. Being invited to speak is a sign of recognition. When you are asked to speak at a programme, it is a sign of recognition. 5. Honour someone by appointing him to an honourable position. Being appointed to a board or to a position is a sign that you are being recognized. How do you know that you are not honoured? When you are never mentioned it is a sign that you are not recognized. When public acknowledgment of your presence is not made, you are not recognized. When you are not given awards in spite of your obvious achievements in an area, it is a sign that you are not recognized. When you are never invited to be a speaker, it is a sign that your ministry is not recognized. Daily Counsel With Dag Heward-Mills A GOOD SEARCH 11th July, 2022 READ: James 1:5-8 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. James 1:5 Are you searching for knowledge and wisdom? Follow these keys and learn how to develop into a man of knowledge and wisdom. 1. Noticing, recognizing things is the first step to gaining knowledge. People who lack wisdom do not notice things (Jeremiah 1:11-12) Monkeys lack the ability to point out things to their children. The inability to notice things, to point things out, to acknowledge things and to reward great achievements is a sign of mental deficiency. Nations that do not reward successful people, but rather punish them, reveal a deep-seated deficiency. 2. Considering, thinking, meditating is a step to wisdom (Proverbs 24:30- 34). People who do not think deeply cannot become wise. To think, to calculate and to meditate is an important activity that is lacking in people who are not wise. People who are not wise run from activity to activity without thinking deeply. 3. Acknowledging and honouring is a step to knowledge (Luke 11:31). Great achievers should be recognized and honoured. It is a sign of dwelling in an intelligent community. Albert Einstein, the great physicist, released some scientific papers of his theories in 1905. Amazingly, at the time when people did not fully understand the implications of his discoveries and calculations, he was hailed, acknowledged and recognized. He became a worldwide celebrity by the age of forty. He was honoured for his achievements. He was living in an enlightened society that could recognise a great achievement. He toured the world giving lectures on his calculations and theories of relativity. Jesus the Model of Excellence Since Jesus is the example of excellence, let us look at Jesus for direction in ministry. I want us to look at four main areas of the good Shepherd's ministry: prayer, visitation, teaching and interaction (PVTI). A good understanding of these four aspects of Jesus' ministry will transform your pastoral ministry. 1. Prayer And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there PRAYED. Mark 1:35 2.Visitation And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they ENTERED INTO THE HOUSE of Simon and Andrew, with James and John… Mark 1:29-31 3.Teaching And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may PREACH there also: for therefore came I forth. And he PREACHED in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out devils. Mark 1:38, 39 4. Interaction Now as HE WALKED BY THE SEA OF GALILEE, HE SAW SIMON AND ANDREW his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And JESUS SAID UNTO THEM, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. Mark 1:16, 17 These Scriptures show us that Jesus was a man of prayer, a man of preaching, a man of visitation and a man who interacted with the people. Daily Counsel With Dag Heward-Mills PRAY FOR THE HOLY SPIRIT 7th July, 2022 READ: 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to pro t withal. 1 Corinthians 12:7-10 Pray for the Holy Spirit and you will become a powerhouse of miracles, signs and wonders. Praying for the Holy Spirit is important because gifts start to flow in your life. The gifts of supernatural knowledge and supernatural wisdom are given through the power of the Holy Spirit. Gifts of healing and miracles become common in your life when you have the Holy Spirit. Speaking in tongues and prophecy will flow effortlessly from your lips. Pray for the Holy Ghost and you will become a vessel for miracles, signs and wonders. It is no wonder that Jesus asked us to pray for the Holy Spirit. You must pray for the Holy Spirit so that you manifest the gifts of the Spirit. You must pray for the Holy Spirit so that you have increasing wisdom, understanding, knowledge and counsel. And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord; Isaiah 11:2 You must pray for all the seven spirits of God. When you pray for all the seven spirits of God, you will become like Daniel who had an excellent spirit. Most of the wrong moves of your life have come because you lacked the wisdom to take the right decision. Most governments fail because they have become blinded and ignorant to the realities in their countries. We need knowledge, we need truth and we need reality. We need the Holy Spirit to give us counsel, understanding and truth. The Holy Spirit is also called the Spirit of truth.
