What happens when you don't want to partake in consumerism?

Are you able to take a break from life, take some time "off" to just be and enjoy yourself without having to produce? 

What would happen if we, as a collective society, decided to no longer give into consumerism?

If we realized that we need more substance, and that the quick fix of buying yet another thing, any thing, off of Amazon won't fill the void inside us all.

What if that void is capitalism?
