The Sea began as an abstract piano idea and became my most listened-to song: a love poem to my late aunt Agnes, carrying birth, death, grief and the pull of the ocean. In this Music Deep Dive, I trace its path from dance-film sketch to symphonic song, explore the influence of Debussy and the coast, and unpick why water keeps returning throughout my work - even though I’m afraid of it.
