📖 Section Covered: Prologue  📢 Episode Summary: In the first episode of a brand new book, Tadd and Peter dive into Book 5 Wolves of the Calla. In a first for this series we start the book with someone other than Roland or our Ka-Tet. We find a farmer named Tian Jaffords in a cursed part of his field. He is working his very tall but simple-minded twin sister. A robot named Andy comes and Tian guesses (correctly) he is bringing news of the Wolves, they are coming in 30 days. He is distraught, so too is his wife who was watching their 5 children, two sets of twins and a "singleton" and Tian wonders if it is time to say no to the wolves. We also see his wife has a large simple-minded twin, and they have a "Grand-pere" living with them. He calls their town together, their town is so small there is not even a sheriff let alone any sort of leader, and many show up including eight Manni and a late-coming stranger. They debate standing up against the Wolves. We learn they have been coming for six generations (give or take) and they take one of the two twins from age 3 to puberty and the one they take comes back "Roont" empty of mind and large of body. We also find out that twins are the norm here and "singletons" are rare and coveted because they are safe from the Wolves. The Wolves come every 20+ years or so. It is not overly going Tian's way, the folks appealing to reason are winning the day, but finally the later-comer speaks up and we find out it is Father Callahan, he of Salem's Lot, and he challenges them all to stand. He then says because they are just farmers and ranchers they should hire some killers and there are four of them travelling nearby along the path of the Beam. 📖 Section Covered: Part 4 Chapter 4, Chapter 5 Subchapters 1-5, Afterword 📢 Episode Summary: In the final Book Club for Wizard and Glass Tadd and Peter follow the ka-tet into the Grapefruit to see the final chapter of Roland's tragic origins story. Roland goes looking for his mom after his return from Mejis and after he is given his birthright guns. The New Yorkers are "in" Gilead watching. Roland does not see someone hiding behind the drapes. He goes into the bedroom and the Ball is there, the figure comes from behind and the Ball makes him think it is Rhea holding a snake, he turns and fires and only sees a fraction of a second after pulling the trigger it is not Rhea but his mother holding a peace-offering belt for him. Rhea appears in the Ball and taunts him, but then she can seemingly see the New Yorkers as well and tells them to cry off, he has killed everyone he has ever loved. Jake goes to detroy the ball and it flashes them out of the vision. They are now miles from the palace, time has slipped and they have travelled 30 miles. They see they are back on the path of the Beam. Roland gives them leave to break from the journey, but they all say they are with him until the end. They ask some clarifying questions about the backstory Roland answers what he can. A note is left from Flagg telling them to cry off. 📖 Section Covered: Part 4 Chapter 2 Subchapters 5, Chapter 3 Subchapters 1-8 📢 Episode Summary: In the latest Book Club for Wizard and Glass Tadd and Peter re-join the ka-tet outside the Emerald Palace as they get their new ruby shoes/boots on and get ready to click their heels, but it does not work and they realize that it is because Oy is not doing it as well. Once they help Oy the gate opens. The tet goes in and sees a nonsense-filled newspaper with some Blaine references. Much of what they see is straight from the Oz film including the long hallway. They get to the big room with a massive throne and rainbow organ as the voice starts booming out at them, and Blaine's route map appears out of fog. They go back and forth with the voice until Oy reveals the man behind the curtain, which is Tick Tock man. Then on the throne appears Marten or Flagg, the Deans dispose of Tick Tock. Roland's guns do nothing against Flagg, he tells them all to forsake the Tower, Roland draws the Ruger shocking Flagg but it caught on his belt buckle allowing Flagg to escape. The also see a note on a camper talking about an old woman in Nebraska and a Dark Man in Vegas. The also reach a clearing on I-70 and find red shoes for each of them, including Oy. The building they are approaching is now clearly seen as an Emerald Palace. Eddie ties Roland flying into the Ball to the Wizard of Oz as he saw things flying in the storm. They then fill Roland in on the story of Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz as it is clearly relevant to what they are seeing. 📖 Section Covered: Part 3, Chapter 10 Subchapters 23-27 & Part 4 Chapter 1 Subchapters 1-3 📢 Episode Summary: In the latest Book Club for Wizard and Glass Tadd and Peter reach the moment the entire book was counting down to. Susan is taken into town on Rhea's cart and as she sees a farmer she finally understands what she is headed for, and she prays to her father for strength for what is to come. Roland had realized in our last episode that the ball lied to him, and now he demands it from Alain, he takes it out and it shows him Susan in the cart, all while drinking his agony. He watches as the people began to pelt her with cornhusks and rotten vegitables, while they spit at her and while they chant Charyou Tree. Cuthbert and Alain are helpless to break Roland from it as he screams in agony. Then Cordelia and Rhea lead the charge of the town as they put Susan on the bonfire stack and ask she cries out her love for Roland Cordelia (and then Rhea) throw the first torches on the piles. In the end Susan thinks of Roland, remembers the good times, they were well met. Roland is screaming like a gutted animal, the ball only releases him when Cuthbert readies to shoot it, Roland passes out, the boys must leave Hambry for good with Roland in tow. Then we rejoin our 'modern' Ka-Tet as the story is told, they marvel it has only been one night, we hear Roland looked into the ball 3 more times. Jake hugs Roland and apologizes that he lost his friend.
