Why Such an Apocalyptic Gospel?
The Gospel is as provocative now as it was in the times of the Apostles. Apocalyptic refers to conviction that the things which God has promised will be accomplished at the end of the age, and without human assistance. This teaching aims to answer the frequent response to an 'apocalyptic' reading of the Gospel - Why? “Kingdom Then” Theology Credentials
"Kingdom Then" theology seems like the minority. Who are the "spokesman" for it and does it's minority status discredit it? Since "Kingdom Now" is the prevalent view in the evangelical church, wouldn't that prove that it is the correct Kingdom theology? Missions Under the Cross
The Olivet Discourse (Mathew 24-25; Mark 13; Luke 21) is a prophetic and apocalyptic argument against boastful ideas that the end-time fulfillment of God's promises could come to pass through the strength of man. Building upon the already assumed framework of the Law and Prophets, the intention of Jesus in the discourse is more than continued forecasting of eschatological events, but to emphasize the apocalyptic, end-time framework in order to produce a response of discipleship congruent with the God-ordained delay of the Day of the Lord. The response required of disciples of Jesus is that of a faithful, suffering witness, that follows in the example of their crucified Messiah. This teaching explores these themes against the backdrop of the life of Peter, whose fervent zeal in the strength of man was radically reoriented to follow his suffering Master, and whose writings, particularly emphasized in his account of the Olivet Discourse (Mark 13) lead us to walk down a similar path in following and proclaiming Him as we watch for His coming. Trinity
The subject of the trinity takes center stage in many discussions throughout the evangelical church. This discussion really asks the question as to what role it should take in the apostolic gospel message. “In Christ” and “New Creation”
Within the Church there are several ideas about what it means to be "in Christ" and a "new creation." This conversation digs deep into the Word to discover what those terms actually mean to the believer. The Gospel and Mary of Bethany
Jesus said that wherever the Gospel is preached in the whole world the response that Mary of Bethany demonstrated would be spoken of in memory of her. (Matthew 26:13) Her response was based on a context, a faith, and a hope that we need to understand in order to embrace the same wisdom and respond as she did. This message was preached at a church in the Arab World that ministers to Syrian refugees (about half in attendance the night of this message were Muslim women). Arabic interpretation is provided. Before the audio recording Matthew began with the following: "Good evening. I’m so grateful to have the honor of speaking to you from the Holy Scriptures tonight. I want to thank these precious shepherds of yours for having me. Now before we begin I want to give you a quick overview of what I will be sharing with us tonight, and then we’ll pray together. I simply want to remind us of the solid faith and sure hope found in the Scriptures, so that we might have renewed grace to excel even more in sacrificial love and to also be found blameless in the Messiah on His soon coming Day. - And so, I want to begin with a story of a young lady who knew and loved the Messiah. - Then we will look briefly at the context and promises that make her story so profound. - Before finally coming back to the story of this young lady and her extravagant response. - We will end with encouragement from the Scriptures and pray together. Let’s pray now that our eyes and ears would be open and hearts ready to respond to the Word." The Cruciform Life of Christ
In this teaching we seek to observe the nature of the Creator God in choosing to make His brutal execution on the Cross the highest defining characteristic of His identity. We attempt to peer beyond creation with verses such as "The Lamb who was slain before the foundations of the earth," and look at the substance of God's life on the earth in His Son. We try to gain a fresh perspective of the Cross through asking the question of "why?" instead of "what?" observing the fact that before God created, within the nature of the Godhead there existed the qualities of the Cross–That the Cross is inherently a part of God, His very identity is attached to it, and it is not merely an abstract idea He enacted for salvation. The Cruciform Love of Christ
In this teaching we seek to define love through the outstretched arms of Christ Crucified. In a generation (and broken age) where love is usually typified by sentiment, a journey through the Gospel of John reveals Jesus definition of love in the life completely submitted to God, laid down even to death.
