Injecting wonder into the mundane with Simon van der Els
Simon has an academic and professional background in molecular biology, but nagging questions about climate change, biodiversity loss and societal collapse have shifted his attention to the macro scale in recent years. He is now focused on answering two central questions: In what capacity will our biosphere survive the coming centuries? Rather than continuing down our current omnicidal path, how can homo sapiens step up and play a regenerative role? While the climate movement is centred on sustainable production and technological innovation, Simon’s interests lie in the mental and emotional aspects of our adaptation to a changing planet. When it comes to developing a sustainable culture, he believes most of the work needs to be on mindset. In this conversation, Simon and I discuss the practicalities of Deep Adaptation, finding meaningful work in a time of collective crisis, the usefulness of psychadelics, and seeking hope in cooperative, local economies. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/curious-candour/message
