COVID Stories: A Case Study of Claude Debussy's "Syrinx" | Eva Ding Ep 11
About The Speaker: Eva Ding Often humorously likened to an inflatable tube man onstage because of her enthusiasm and physicality, all flutist Eva Ding ever wants to do is imbue in her audience the same sense of joy and richness that music brings to her. Most recently, Eva returned to her hometown of Auckland and gave the New Zealand premiere of a new, orchestral arrangement of Claude Bolling’s “Suite for Flute and Jazz Trio”. Her most interesting gig to date, however, has to have been when she was the opening number for pro-wrestler, Orange Cassidy, at an Independent Wrestling TV match. In recognition of her potential as a performer, Eva has received fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts and New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and is a current fellow of bespoken. She has performed alongside soloists from the Metropolitan Opera, and with the United Nations Chamber Music Society and Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. In 2017, Eva made her NYC concerto debut with the Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra performing Honegger’s 'Concerto da Camera' and was invited back in 2019 to make the New York premiere of Tailleferre's 'Concertino for Flute, Piano, and Chamber Orchestra'. Shanghai-born and Auckland-raised, Eva completed a Master of Music with Robert Langevin, Principal Flute of the New York Philharmonic, and is now based in New York. Prior to that, she gained her Bachelor of Music with First Class Honors from the University of Auckland. Case 84-1410: My Korean Adoptee Experience | Edward Pokropski Ep 9
About The Speaker: Edward Pokropski I was born in Seoul, South Korea and then adopted at 19 months old. I was raised mostly in Philly. I don't like cheesesteaks, but I have been boxing since I was 17, so some stereotypes do stick. Throughout the week, I host open mics under Laughing Buddha Comedy at Klimat in East Village.  I perform standup in various clubs and bars throughout the country (but mostly NY, Philly and NJ) and have hosted numerous charity events as an emcee. I also write, produce, direct and edit content for NBCUniversal.  I’ve done most of my work in kids’ television. Kids are the most challenging of all audiences. Their mood can change instantly and they can heckle better than anyone.   I live in NYC, love food and shamelessly promote Asian Americans everywhere, any chance that I get.         CONTACT: https://www.instagram.com/epopski Recorded at Crushing The Myth 03 (NY, May 3rd, 2019) The Crushing the Myth podcast is Produced by talkingtaiwan.com

Strong not Skinny: How I Won an $80K Body Transformation Contest That Ultimately Changed My Thinking | Nina Nam Ep 8
About The Speaker: Nina Nam I’m Nina Nam. I won $80,000 cash as the grand prize winner of the Bodybuilding.com’s Annual 12-week Transformation Challenge amongst 57,000+ contestants worldwide in 2015. My badass book/memoir about this journey is coming out at the end of this year. It’s about why I wanted to win so badly, how I maintained focus and faith, and some unexpected obstacles and weird hacks! I wrote it primarily because I want the reader to feel fired up about something he/she wants, believe it is going to happen, and never never never give up. That miracle happened to me because of fierce faith in myself, and fierce focus. I’m into God, well-being, abundance, gratitude. Dear Asian Families: Stop Denying Mental Illness | Israa Nasir Ep 5
About The Speaker: Israa Nasir Israa Nasir is a psychotherapist and mental health advocate, currently working at the intersection of mental health and technology. Home is a complicated question -  Pakistani by birth, she split her childhood between the Middle East and Canada, before moving to New York City.  Being a ‘Third Culture Kid’, she is passionate about Asian diasporic issues, especially mental health, women, and the role of (im)migration on identity. She hopes to encourage meaningful conversation around mental health and propel change in the Asian community through her work. Her recent efforts include community outreach with local politicians to raise awareness, speaking engagements on multiple podcasts and Instagram Live sessions, and leading workshops for corporate clients in New York City, including the NYPD and the New York Stem Cell Foundation. Her writings on mental health have been published in various publications, including Thrive Global. She has a habit of reading multiple books at the same time; sometimes, you'll find her sipping coffee and writing short-stories as well. She loves David Attenborough and BBC documentaries, watching foreign films (especially if they are black-and-white!), and her ideal vacation is whale-watching on a coastal road trip with some great music, and a cheese plate.
