Dec 3/23 2 Kings 11:1-3 Luke 2:25-38 It is advent season! This time of eager anticipation as we approach Christmas. God has come to humanity as the baby Jesus. This is the beginning of something BIG. It is the beginning of the story though, and not the climax. A beginning holds many expectations and mysteries of what is yet to come. The birth of Jesus has already challenged the assumptions about God's Messiah. Something is beginning in a way that no one expected. David was promised by God to have always have a king on the throne. Later prophets told that the Messiah would come from this kingly line. How is the nation of Judah supposed to remain hopeful when it appears that the kingly line of David has ended? Let me tell you a story about a boy named Joash... This is also a message for all evil empires that become like Babylon. Living in a world where evil empires exist we can learn from Habakkuk's example; live by faith and praise God in the turmoil. Habakkuk 1:1-2:1 John 11:1-15; 32-35; 38-44 Habakkuk was a prophet to the kingdom of Judah. His message is recorded as two complaints to God and the responses received back from God. When the world around us is in chaos we can call out to God in all of our raw emotions, but then we watch, wait and listen for God's response. God sees and knows the situation, hears our plea and cares through action. The response might not be what we expect. 1 Peter 5:6-7 Pastor Scott Isaak
