We've made it to the milestone episode 30! After all the guests i've had in the past from a wide variety of backgrounds and professions I'm finally here. Who better to have on as a guest to hit this milestone with than a voice of the future? The elegant and sophisticated Saïna! Had to organise and host 2 concerts but yes I finally have a British artist on here (sorry not sorry) lol It may be episode 30 but we hit a lot of firsts with this one. Saïna is my first guest who is a British recording artist, first guest of Japanese heritage and first guest to have performed at my concert! We talk about her journey into music, the inner workings of her process and how it's all been so far. As much as you might see things online about how it all works, there are a lot of gems in there on how the music industry in the UK is like. Between this and the last episode a few big events have taken place:1. Hear:HER International Women's Day concert which I organised with Asian Tones and hosted Saïna and 5 other amazing up and coming Asian artists (Pritt, Lucy Tun, Lila Yin, Kaisha, Keydott). Good turn out and really positive responses at the iconic XOYO, Shoreditch!2. The Migration Museum opened the Taking Care Of Business exhibition in Lewisham which tells the story of migrants who have come to the UK and set up the shops which make up the heart and soul of neighbourhoods across the UK. Chinese takeaways, corner shops, laundry mats and much more, it's a preservation of an untold legacy which has paved the way for . Angela Hui (TimeOut journalist and author of Takeaway) curated the takeaway section where she recreated the shop front she grew up with and featured pictures of takeaway fronts across the UK, one of them being mine. There are also interviews she conducted with takeaway kids too which can be heard on the wall phone, mine is number 4! 3. I did a podcast episode with Saïna for her podcast Lost In The Mix! So this is a nice little swapsies situation we have. After you've listened to this episode go and listen to the episode I did with her!And with that thank you everybody who's made it with me this far. Go check out all the guests i've had in the past and until next time, peace!SaïnaWebsite: http://sainamusic.com Instagram: @baby.zeenhttps://www.instagram.com/baby.zeenLost In The Mix Podcast:https://lostinthemix.buzzsprout.comCrazy Brit Asian Instagram: @crazybritasian https://www.instagram.com/crazybritasianFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/crazybritasian/

The continuation of part 1 of the dating and relationship episode. If you liked that rollercoaster then here’s how you finish the ride. Also, I make an announcement of what I’ve been working on and have coming very soon. Hope to see you there ;) the reveal posts are pending launch, but if you can’t wait for the reveal then listen to the episode!Part 1 I gave dating ideas for over the winter, so in part 2 it’s for the coming warmer weather! We delve into what is now the norm of dating, the apps. Pictures people use, the comments & captions, opening lines, conversations, ghosting and basically how do you get off the app and get a date. Ghosting and so much more! This is in no way extensive and it could even get future episodes because we had a lot of fun making it and some funny reactions too. Listen now to part 2 of this extended get to know you! Shoutout to Alex producer of Fun With Dumb for the title inspo from Ep 165 where we talk about a first date too.Hear:HER International Women’s DayMy second concert! Another UK first! It's been a while as always and this episode we talk about the most popular topic on the internet and all generations, dating and relationships. Before diving in I give an update of what I’ve been up to during my long hiatus and social disappearing act. You’ll get up to speed and hear hints of future announcements, coming very soon so stay tuned! Now begins the discussion (12:56). It being the season for a lot of red in the form of lunar new year and valentines day, talk is rife around a certain topic. Whether it’s by parents and family or friends, everyone’s got something to say and the typical questions are getting asked with every person you visit. Me and my guest Jayne delve into the hottest topic in town to give both the male and female perspectives of the various aspects of dating. What are the expectations from both sides? How do you open? Is height that important? And that's just scratching the surface. Get ready for hot takes, reveals and tea, welcome to the dance. As we covered so much during this recording it was inevitably long so I split it into 2 parts. This is part 1, so come back for part 2 very soon (it's already been edited!) But for now it's story time, am I getting the bill or do we split it? On 27th Sep 2020, Crazy Brit Asian officially launched and this just so happens to be the 27th episode. Trust me, this was not intentional, it just happened haha. So this episode I record and post on my actual birthday and reflect on the journey of the past year, how things have developed and what the effect has been on my life. It's a bit of a whistle stop tour of what the past year with Crazy Brit Asian by yours truly.Addressing the elephant in the room, long time no pod episode! But that's because I've been super busy with organising, producing and hosting the Ripples In The Wave concert. A lot of work went into pulling this together so the episodes had to take a hit but it was totally worth it! A lil more on that later as before all of that and what led to it even coming into fruition is all the developments CBA had to go through to build such a foundation to take it on in the first place.I talk about how this was an idea inspired by Dumbfoundead and the Fun With Dumb podcast 3 years ago, how the ESEA landscape back then was minimal and very poorly represented. Who was the catalyst that triggered me and a wave of other podcasters to pic up the mic and hit record. As you can tell, things have changed drastically now with greater awareness of the nuances of the ESEA community. A lot of steps have been taken but there's still a lot to do as a community. The podcast has also opened many doors and collaboration opportunities such as the interview with Dumbfoundead, which led to interviews and developing relationships with the rest of the FWD crew and recognition on Clubhouse to get further guest collaborations. As the ESEA community has grown immensely, it's been an honour to have been a contributor to it and met a large number of others who've helped with making great strides too at besea.n's celebratory birthday event and also the celebration of the UK's first nationally recognised ESEA Heritage Month! So to wrap up this historic month in the UK I decided to make a bit of history myself by throwing a concert looking to the future. Together with help from WAV Collective and Sound of Plus 82, I organised, produced and hosted my first concert event which focused on up and coming east and southeast asian artists in the UK. The only other time this has happened outside of Asia is 88rising's annual Head in the Clouds concert in LA. As we know, the ESEA community is still massively underrepresented in the UK so this was well overdue and is the first ripple in a bigger wave.As for what's next for this pod, you'll just have to listen to find out. Follow on socials and holla if you feel like it. Peace!@crazybritasian

It's the month of August and more specifically Asian August, a month long offering of community events organised by BAM n Beyond celebrating Asian culture. The first time in a very long time doing a live in person episode. I talk with Jem and Sophia both from BAM n Beyond about the Asian August month they’ve organised, why they’re doing it and the theme of it this year which is all about identity. We also find out a bit about BAM n Beyond, how they came to be, why they're doing it and go on to talk about the current state of the British Asian community, it’s identity vs the US one and have a discussion of establishing our own. Lot’s of interesting insights and anecdotes in this episode, enjoy!I'll be speaking on one of their Asian August events Careers Development Panel 8-10pm on Thursday 5th August live on twitch so tune in twitch.tv/bamnbeyondContact: Crazy Brit Asian Instagram: @crazybritasian https://www.instagram.com/crazybritasian/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/crazybritasian/ Email: [email protected] n BeyondInstagram: @bamnbeyond https://www.instagram.com/bamnbeyond/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bamnbeyond/ Twitter: @bamnbeyondTwitch: twitch.tv/bamnbeyond

It's been a while and we're here with a brand new episode! Apologies for the absence, life happened with work and trying to get my things in order as i'm sure is the case with everybody else. I give a brief update of what i've been up to (Wimbledon - Tennis & Silverstone - F1) and also announcements of what i've got coming up (Speaking on Asian Careers Panel - Bam n Beyond twitch stream, asian creative live event in September for ESEA Month UK). It's Minority Mental Health Month and we're talking about the topic of mental health with Florence who is a therapist from HK that works for the NHS. We met on clubhouse and instantly admired her for everything that she does. Outside of her day job she held rooms with a friend of hers and provided therapy sessions and talk mental health with people that joined the rooms. She does all this whilst working in the mental health space for the NHS so UK hours whilst she is living in HK. As we know, in the asian community, even though it’s come a long way in wider acceptance and being normalised, it’s still considered a taboo subject that many avoid or are sceptical of. It's a very important and sensitive topic that requires a lot of care and at times professionalism so Florence is here to provide just that.We talk about how she got into her profession, mental health in asian culture & HK, how she deals with stress, help services available from the NHS, checking up on friends and advice on dealing with mental health and taking related leave in the workplace. Also, for those with very busy lives, I learnt a surprising tip on how to reduce such personal pressures.NHS Help Services:Primary Mental healthcare - Common problems e.g stress, relationship breakdowns, anxietySecondary Mental healthcare - Emotional and increased problems such as seeing things, eating disordersSamaritans & 111 line - Personal safety e.g suicidal problems, feeling low and don’t feel safe by yourself999 and A&E - Crisis lines with trained personnel to helpNHS websites and apps - worries, self harm, self helphttps://www.nhs.uk/mental-health/----------------------------------------------------------------------------Contact: FlorenceInstagram: @your.choyce https://www.instagram.com/your.choyce/ Contact: Crazy Brit Asian Instagram: @crazybritasian https://www.instagram.com/crazybritasian/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/crazybritasian/ Email: [email protected]

Episode 23 and it's ICONIC!! Now for a lot of you probably wouldn’t know who Jae Chong and his kpop boy group Solid is but you'd be forgiven as they debuted back in 1993 and were the first Korean American group to break into Korea. Sold millions of records and has worked with so many names you would have grown up with. We talk about this but did you know Kanye is on a kpop song? Have a guess who made that happen? Vaness Wu from F4, Jay Chou, Coco Lee, Aziatix which includes Nicky Lee and Flowsik, honestly Google and Wikipedia Jae Chong, the list of artists and achievements are insane. Over 70million records sold! We take a trip down memory lane with a King of Korean RnB as we talk about the differences between then and now. What it was like being at the heart of Kpop’s transformation through his decorated career seeing it from all sides as an artist, producer and music exec. The formula for success, working with talent, his mission with Kpop, some advice for upcoming artists, his new project Saviyn and what music industry backlash can mean to Kpop’s future. On the final day of AAPI Heritage Month, who better to have on the pod than an inspirational role model and big contributor of the AAPI community Calista Wu! Artist, attorney, community supporter and leader, what does she not do? We talk about her journey from music to law and back. What led to each move and why this time around she’s doing music for a bigger purpose. As a very big community supporter, we talk about the values that drive her to do all she does and why out of all the non profits she’s helped, she chose to take on the role of general counsel for #hateisavirus. Days after we recorded this, she was also accepted onto the board of directors for Asian Americans Advancing Justice LA (AAJC). A true unsung hero who selflessly applies so much of herself and expects nothing back! She shines in everything she does, just like her NFT! Like, follow and listen to this and more on Spotify, Apple podcasts and other platforms. Link in IG bio to sign petitions and support! Episode 21! My pod is now a worldwide adult... I guess? So to commemorate the occasion and grant it a knighthood, all the way from the United Zingdom, I welcome the very accomplished Zing Tsjeng to the pod! We start by talking about what was it like growing up in Singapore and watching it transform from vast wildlife green land to the current metropolis we know it to be today. What drew her to move to the UK, her experience of expectations vs reality when she first arrived and how there's a lot that the Brits can learn from Singapore, especially when it comes to food!We find out about her journalistic journey, overcoming challenges of industry representation, what's it like writing for Vice and the pieces she's written which focus on stories within the ESEA community. Pieces such as Rina Sawayama's Brits & Mercury awards breakthrough, addressing Asian hate in the UK in Harpers Bazaar and top tips for being an ally.At the time of recording the Stop ESEA Hate Fund had only just been announced the day before, so it was a no brainer to talk about the whole process of how it all happened and the amazing response it's gotten thus far! Be sure to continue supporting by donating if you are able to and reposting on your socials! All funds go towards supporting grassroots organisations in the UK. Find out more at: https://gofund.me/e8e79719It was truly an honour and a pleasure to have such an instrumental figure as my guest and be sure to keep an eye out on all her upcoming work as she continues to be the much needed voice of our community in mainstream media. Find out all this and more on this latest episode! For this episode I had some help from my friend Debbie Poon with getting a few questions in who is also supporting a fund made up of creatives from over 14 countries and combining 55 pieces of their artwork prints to sell and raise funds for Communitea.
