For many Filipino-Americans, it is not easy to have conversations about the serious topics. In fact, sometimes we can be avoidant or passive when it comes to tackling the tough stuff. On this episode, we get down with some comments from the Cracking the Coconut TikTok page.
These topics include: “Why representation is important to Filipino-Americans,” “Filipinos in the Philippines don’t like being misrepresented,” “Filipino-Americans called HALF-BREEDS,” and many other touchy subjects.

This mini episode is all about The Little Mermaid -- well, more so about the amazing Halle Bailey playing Ariel and how that affects representation and the Filipino culture.

In this episode of Cracking the Coconut, Jasmine and Carla talk about Filipino Americans only claiming their heritage when it's convenient for them. But that's far from the truth! Filipino culture in the diaspora is alive and well, and Filipinos all over the world are doing what they can to stay connected to their culture, despite assimilation.

It seems like #Filipinos outside of the Philippines are always having to "prove" their Filipinoness to mainland Filipinos. Whether it's speaking a full convo in Tagalog, or being quizzed on geography, #Fil-Ams are constantly being questioned by their own community. It f*cking sucks.

In the SEASON FINALE of "Cracking the Coconut," we do things a little different. This episode's topic? EVERYTHING! We pull topics out of a coconut and shoot the sh*t. From sex, our most daring adventures, and answering the tough question: is a hotdog a sandwich, episode 10 takes some fun twists and turns. We also do a little mukbang and indulge on a vegan "Hawaiian" plate.

As kids, our parents, grandparents, and any elder would tell us universal ideas and pass them off as truths. Some ideas were harmless and are now comical to think about, while others were toxic and were the mind bombs that completely shifted our perspectives. In episode 8 of “CRACKING THE COCONUT,” we talk all about the silly and serious things our elders have told us growing up.Episode Blog:Follow us on IG & Facebook @crackingthecoconutTwitter & TikTok @crackingthecoco

In episode 7 of “CRACKING THE COCONUT” we decided to switch up the tempo with a topic that’s near and dear to our hearts, and a whole lot of fun! With over 13 years combined working in the entertainment industry, we’ve attained priceless experience, learned many lessons and gained countless memories.
We've worked with top A-list artists like #SelenaGomez, #BTS, and #HER. #Filipino-Americans can be scarce in the entertainment industry -- both in front of the camera and behind. But if it weren't for following our own ambitions, instead of what our families wanted, we wouldn't have found ourselves in the middle of some magical moments.

In episode 6 of “CRACKING THE COCONUT” we explore the theory of the #crabmentality and how it creates a narrative of #Filipino vs Filipino. For a community that is known for their warm welcomes, hospitality and their famous, “Hello, Mamsir!” greeting, why are Filipinos so selective on the individuals and groups they choose to support?
