An Ad Man Stumbles into The Life Insurance Biz | This Week in Coverager with Guest Aaron Shapiro, CEO of Dayforward (week ending 1-22-2021)
Over 2 years ago, Coverager published this article called "Behind The Scenes". In it, Avi quoted Aaron Shapiro, author of the book Users, Not Customers and (at the time) CEO of the ad agency Huge. Aaron is now CEO of Dayforward (what was Avi's influence on this???) Aaron joined Shefi, Avi and Nick on This Week in Coverager. With a lot of activity in the life insurance space and the announcement of Lemonade Life, we discussed Dayforward's recent release, the advantages of being a carrier vs MGA, obsession over the definition of "customer" and how Dayforward thinks about differentiation and positioning. Dayforward is focused on financial inequality and their life solution is step #1 in what is likely to be a string of financial solutions to close the gap.

This Week in Coverager (week ending 11-27-2020)
HAPPY THANKSGIVING! We are grateful and thankful that you watch and listen! In this episode of This Week in Coverager Shefi, Avi and Nick debated: - Metromile to go public via SPAC acquisition Metromile, known for its pay-per-mile feature is an auto insurer who was insurtech before insurtech was in our lexicon. This past week, Metromile announced that they would become a public company via a SPAC acquisition. We discussed what this means for Metromile and how this positions them in what is becoming a crowded area. Was there pressure on Metromile to move due to market pressures? How will Metromile differentiate and position this as Root, Just Auto, Branch, OEMs (Tesla, GM-Onstar) and legacy insurers all compete in this space? Is low-mileage TAM big enough to justify the investment? Lots of opinions and insights in this episode of This Week in Coverager.

This Week in Coverager with Special Guest Paul Guyardo, CEO of Petplan
This week, Avi and Nick welcomed Paul Guyardo, CEO of Petplan onto This Week in Coverager. We discussed the Petplan, Group Nine collaboration, as Petplan will rebrand to Fetch by the Dodo as it works with The Dodo an animal media brand to serve pet parents (not the same as pet owners) in maximizing their pet's health and well being. Could we see more media companies leveraging insurance as a value-add in their services? What would that mean to more traditional sorts of insurance products. We discussed this and more (what makes Avi cry?) on This Week in Coverager.
