Is KFI on the Fritz? Or is Fritz on KFI? Spoiler: It’s the Latter!

— Tomorrow Mayor Karen Bass sits down with John Kobylt, and Mark’s tipping his cap — it takes chutzpah to walk into that studio. Then the comedy corner: San Francisco’s Jake Johannsen, an old buddy of Mark’s whose long-form storytelling tickles Timmy’s funny bone. They pull out the bits that still land. Down in San Juan Capistrano, the Norte Fire has burned through seven structures, is sitting at 75% contained, and still has roughly 300 firefighters on it. Atta boys.  9:20 — Fritz Coleman is in the house. The funnyman-turned-weatherman-turned-funnyman’s solo show “Unassisted Living” just wrapped its second year of packing the intimate Monroe Forum at the historic El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood. Fritz’s residency is the longest-running solo show in the theater’s history. He performs it himself with a special guest each month. Sundays at 3 p.m. on March 1, April 26, May 31, June 28, July 26, August 30, September 27, October 25, and November 29 at 5269 Lankershim Blvd. Tickets are $40, or $50 for cocktail seating (two-ticket minimum). elportaltheatre.com/fritzcoleman. Timmy’s already looking for the good seats.  9:35 — Back when Fritz Coleman was doing weather in Buffalo, OJ Simpson was the biggest thing in the frozen Northeast — bigger than Moses. The only local who came close was another Buffalo guy, Rick James. Now the chatter in Tinseltown is that OJ might not have been alone the night Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman were killed. Fritz has stories from those ’90s days working with KNBC anchorman John Beard, who Mark also knew personally. Of course he did.  9:50 — Hollywood’s still shedding jobs. Netflix just cut roughly 1,000 people — about 6% of its workforce, the biggest round in four years — hitting product, tech, legal and HR. This came right after the streamer lost its bid for Warner Bros. Discovery to Paramount Skydance. The very next day they pushed out longtime content chief Bela Bajaria and brought in Peter Rice, the former Disney television chairman and Fox. LA County has lost more than 50,000 entertainment jobs since 2022, and a county report estimated the Paramount-Warner merger alone could cost another 4,500 film and TV jobs in the area over three years.   Thanks for listening to Tim Conway Jr. on KFI! 🎙️See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
