In this special episode of Content Crusaders we let Dominic Loneragan, a photographer for 15 years, vent his frustrations over copyright infringement and usages in the age of social media. Why is this relevant to you as a business owner or even a casual social media user? Meghan acts as the stand-in for marketers, brand owners and regular people who have been raised on the copy-paste culture of social media who might not know the rules. Or are there any rules anymore? She asks Dom questions about attribution, usages, how to navigate the trickiness and murky water of how usages work in a global marketplace. She also asks Dom how photographers and businesses owners can both be ‘realistic’ when it comes to copyright. Some of it is Dominic just yelling at the sky, most of it is quite helpful. Remember the great Instagram bot purge of 2014? For the uninitiated, it was the first time the platform pulled an Expecto Patronum on millions of fake accounts, much to the chagrin of many a popstar and influencer who not-so-craftily used these accounts to inflate their clout. Most notably: Mase. The rapper was forced to delete his account from the shame of losing almost three-quarters of his falsified following. It has since never recovered. AND WE HATE SEEING IT LIKE THAT. This is MASE! MASE! He of ‘All I Ever Wanted’ and the ‘Mo’ Money Mo’ Problems’ remix. We couldn’t stand by and let this go on.
