Confessions of a Candyholic
Confessions of a Candyholic
Kelly Clark
Kelly, NP founded Medical WeightLoss & Wellness (MWLW) a decade ago after becoming increasingly frustrated with a career as a nurse (and later an NP), in emergency medicine. Kelly considers herself a “recovering candyholic” who has refrained from her “gateway drug” for years now. Her Wisconsin based clinics promote lifestyle change through the MWLW ketogenic diet designed specifically for weight loss. “I’m here to share with you my personal journey as well as the journey of others, provide some weight loss success tips, drop a little keto knowledge, and so much more!"
Enough Talk! It’s Time to DO Something About Your Vitamin D3 Level (P.S. it can actually save your life)
I can’t stress enough how important Vitamin D is to your health and wellness...particularly to the integrity of your immune system!  In this episode, I‘m going to review with you one of the most profound studies (published in October 2021) I have seen to date correlating low Vitamin D3 with risk of severe COVID disease (including death).  The study also provides the MAGIC number….the Vitamin D3 lab value you NEED in order to prevent severe COVID illness, including death! I will also provide guidance as far as next steps regarding what YOU need to do to take ownership of your Vitamin D3 level— including resources for checking your Vitamin D3 (one option can even be done from the comfort of your home) as well as a D3 replacement protocol for those who find their level to be sub-optimal. research study: https://www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/13/10/3596/htm everlywell: https://www.everlywell.com/products/vitamin-d-test/

Episode 8: Exogenous Ketones: To Ketone or Not To Ketone
As the ketogenic diet increases in popularity, we are seeing more and more keto-related products flooding the market. One of the most popular and best-known of these are  exogenous ketones.  They claim to boost the effects of a ketogenic diet and even give you some of the benefits of keto without restricting carbohydrates.  In this episode I”m going to walk you through the claims vs. the science when it comes to this particular highly marketed supplement that we are finding many of our patients are taking without fully understanding what it’s doing (or not doing) for them as they strive to meet their weight loss goals! Episode 7: Could Vitamin D the Missing Link?
An optimal vitamin D level is more important now than ever before!  Vitamin D has been proven to: affect our mood and behavior, as well as the rate at which we age, strengthen our immunity, prevent heart disease, diabetes and cancer, assist with weight loss, strengthen our bones, reduce bodily inflammation, and even reduce mortality risk related to COVID-19!  While vitamin D is available in small quantities in food, its primary source must come from a vitamin D supplement.   We know how essential vitamin D is to our health and well-being!  So WHY are 95% of African Americans and 70% of light-skinned Americans walking around right now with vitamin D levels considered insufficient, or worse, deficient?  Vitamin D is a hormone, and as with any hormone that is not in balance, our body can be thrown into a state of disarray.   Think of it this way, if a man was deficient in testosterone, how would he feel? If a woman's thyroid was not producing enough or too much hormone, how would she feel?  It's time we take our vitamin D levels much more seriously and approach low levels with the same tenacity we would any other hormone imbalance!   **I have listed some references mentioned within this episode.  I am not able to fit all of them.  If you'd like the complete list, please email the clinic and we would be happy to provide them to you!   Low vitamin D in the African American population: http://www.cooperinstitute.org/2019/09/24/african-americans-at-greatest-risk-of-vitamin-d-deficiency Low vitamin D and obesity: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29644951/ Depression and anxiety related to vitamin D: |ttps://www.uptodate.com/contents/vitamin-d-and-extraskeletal-health?
