If you’d like to support the podcast and all the work that I do then you can! Just head on over to patreon.com/comealongfortheridepodcast and sign up. From as little as a cup of coffee a month, you can help me keep this podcast going. There are many tiers that you can choose from and if everyone who listens gave only $5 per month, it would make a massive positive difference to me.
There is a tier in there for a small business subscription just like the one Peter Papp took up from Peter and the Herd, this is the one where your business gets a mention each week on the podcast. Peter works with equine behaviour and trauma recovery. Equine communication. Human and horse relationship building. Peter has had communication with my mare Gypsy, who is the mare with me in the podcast picture and he was spot on about everything so I can highly recommend his work personally. A shout out to our newest Patreon subscribers. Jelle Miedema thank you for your support and also to Victoria Bradshaw thank you for your support. Your monthly subscription makes my job here so much easier.
In this episode I speak with Ginger Gaffney. Ginger is a horse trainer and author. She wrote and amazing book called Half Broke. It was Paul Szauter from Equisec who recommended this book to me so thanks Paul, I bought it on audible and listened to it twice. For those who know my background in years gone by in Equine Assisted Counselling, this book is such a gem about the horse human relationship.
The book is the true story of Ginger’s work on an alternative to prison ranch where she gets a phone call from residents who are part of the horse team who have horses that are dangerous and aggressive to the point of physical harm to the humans feeding them. Ginger heads out there and helps out.
This book tells the story of the residents and horses that Ginger helps and how they grow and change together, beautifully wound with the telling of Ginger’s own story from her childhood. And as happens so many times when working with horses and humans in this way, Ginger found that she needed to be here helping these people and horses just as much as they needed her. She does not get paid for this work.
I loved this book as I said before. Please read it or please listen to it on audible. It shows just how powerful the horse human relationship is. I believe it’s one of the most powerful and beautiful things on the planet. And reading this book shows me that I may just be right.
Ginger is a pleasure to speak with, I was so happy to find out more about some of the people in the book, where they are now, did they make it or not. Ginger still helps out at the ranch when she can get there, due to Covid it’s been difficult. And I will be keeping an eye out for her next book that she is working on now.
