In this episode I describe my early months in the British Army back in 1978, attending a potential officers’ course for the Household Division, known as Brigade Squad, at the Guards Depot.

I make no apology for my first full length episode being a sad one. My late stepson, Alex, died just over two years ago and I dedicate this episode to him. He led a challenging and short life, troubled by addiction and mental health issues. He is sorely missed by his mother, his brother and sister and by me. I hope that these stories of his life will bring back memories for those who knew him and for those of you who did not, I'm sorry that you didn't get the chance to meet him.
Diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, Alex would, I'm sure, encourage you to find out more at: http://aspergerfoundation.org.uk/
Alexander suffered from addiction and other mental health challenges which often remained unrecognized, I therefore suggest that anyone who identifies with such challenges in everyday life might like to contact my friends, Sue and Skid Dorney and their team through: https://strongmindresilience.co.uk/
I promise that my next episode will be a little lighter than this one. Thank you for allowing me - and Alexander - into your life.

This introduction sets the scene for my new podcast series. You'll find out my reason for doing a podcast series, who I am, where I'm from - and some of the complicated life journey that has resulted in so many stories, at least some of which will, I hope, entertain, inform and provide useful suggestions for life. Sit back, relax (not enough to go to sleep, please!) and let's start our journey together . . . .
