Join Susan & Courtney in speaking with and listening to stakeholders and experts in our education community. Susan and Courtney explore questions of pedagogy, equity, governance structure and student experiences through informal conversations with parents, educators, local leaders and alumni.Susan Bergin has a BA and an MPA from Columbia University, and a JD with honors from Harvard Law School. Susan led the local effort to pay student lunch debt and created the Cougar Cares program to support food insecure students at CHS. Susan wrote the proposal for the creation of a community WiFi pilot program that won Maplewood’s first Participatory Budgeting Contest. She also worked with the BOE to develop the school district’s new allergy policy to keep children safe. Susan lives in Maplewood and is a mother of three children, ages 4, 12 and 15, in our public schools. Courtney Winkfield is the Senior Strategy & Policy Advisor for the NYC Department of Education’s Office of Equity & Access, where she leads the AP for All initiative. Prior to that, Courtney served as a founding teacher, Assistant Principal and Principal of the Academy for Young Writers, a public secondary school in East New York, Brooklyn.
