015. Coffee Chat with Colleen from Stone City Coffee Roasters
Sponsored by CAA Manitoba. Making bad days good. And good days better.® ----more---- Coffee roasters are an important part of the coffee processing chain. In this episode, Genny speaks with Colleen Wohlgemuth, owner of Stone City Coffee Roasters (with her husband Jay), located in Steinbach, Manitoba. Colleen talks about how they started the coffee business, and about why they created Stone City Coffee Roasters. It’s because they are passionate about awesome coffee and about people, and their purpose is to create belonging in the community through coffee. It’s also about connecting with people over coffee. ----more----Colleen and Jay specifically source green beans that have chocolate-tasting notes and they roast almost all the beans to bring out that richness. For their blends, they mix the different beans together and then roast them to find the taste profile they love. A small family-run enterprise, they do everything by hand; from filling, weighing, and sealing each bag, to lifting 150 lb burlap bags of coffee beans. As well, they don’t keep an inventory of roasted coffee beans on hand but instead, roast their beans to fulfill orders, either placed online or sent in from any of the 39 retailers in Manitoba that carry their coffee. Colleen said they will soon start roasting their “Merry Christmas Blend”, a mix of light, medium, and dark roast beans that resembles the “party mix”, as they prepare for the various Christmas markets this fall. www.stonecitycoffeeroasters.com www.caamanitoba.com Follow Genny on Instagram @coffeewithgennyb   ----more----

014. What is your 3rd Act in Life?
William Shakespeare wrote: “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players”. He was referring to your life as “the play” and the various roles you play throughout your life. But just as a play has three acts (or more), there are also three acts in your life: Act 1- birth to adulthood, Act 2 - adulthood to 50, and then Act 3. So, what is the 3rd act in life? It’s the time after you’re 50 and before you’re dead. Too often we’re told that life ends or at least winds down after you’re 50.----more---- But the 3rd act is NOT the end of your play. It’s the time to bridge the gap between the life you’re living and the one you dream of. It’s your time to create a vision for what you truly want, and connect with who you are deep in your soul. It’s time to reframe the perception of ageing, and re-write your life’s story going forward. And just as it’s important to create a financial plan for yourself, it’s just as important, if not more, to create your non-financial plan for your 3rd act and beyond. ----more----Think about those dreams, those hobbies, and those desires that you buried deep inside yourself and dig them up. Bring them to the surface. Consider how full and beautiful your life could be in your 3rd act. Can you imagine if your 3rd act was the very best act in your play? ----more---- Follow Genny on Instagram @CoffeeWithGennyB

Al Dawson has cultivated a culture of giving in all his cafes that starts with his “Manifesto” which is posted in all his cafes and on his website. It represents the values of the organization such as being kind, leaving things better than when you found them, and being part of the solution. It’s about being transparent and who they are as a people. Speaking of which, it’s about people first and Al’s team means the world to him. Al shares the stories behind the names of his coffees and shares the untold story of how many lives are impacted by a cup of coffee. He says that when you say to someone “let’s go for coffee”, what you’re really saying is that “I want to spend time with you”.    www.harrisonscoffeeco.com   @harrisonscoffeeco_

012. Owning Our Identity and the Importance of Our Name
As children, we played make-believe, pretending to be different characters from our fairy tale books. As we grew up, we then took on different roles such as mother, friend or co-worker, and the characteristics of those roles became part of our identity. And when we think of owning our identity, our name is an important part of that identity. But sometimes, we struggle to define our identity. We let self-doubt take over especially when we’re told we are “too much” of something. We struggle with that “imposter syndrome” and start to wonder if we are good enough, smart enough or worthy enough. So, we need to say no to our self-doubt. Take back control of our identity. Embrace who we are. Take that leap of faith. Say your name and proclaim it to the world. And own your stuff! ----more---- Follow Genny on Instagram @coffeewithgennyb
