Healing, funny, spiritual, brutal
To me, Brian Melindez has created something special here, reminding me of a mix between Wonder Years/Fresh Off the Boat remixed by Tupac fans from Southwest US urban culture. Though I am a pretty typical white boy, I can relate instantly to the cultural backdrop Brian paints of his dusty, unstructured urban desert upbringing. His direct, honest storytelling has offered me laughs, healthy discomfort, spiritual intrigue, and lots of unexpected sobbing in my car. Thank you, BB, for your gift and contributions. It is honorable work.

Thoughts
Brian, my name is Michael. My mother is white and my father is a descendant of the Mexica and Yaqui peoples of Mexico. Not much of our traditions have survived in my family. I was raised with my mother until I was fifteen. I was told about my real father once when I was seven then I was forbade to talk about him(I had a white stepfather). Lots of identity issues growing up which you may understand. Some are still lingering. I am not white but I am not fully Indian either. This struggle has always been with me. Thank you for your honesty and the time you set aside for these conversations. Keep up the work. It’s important. Some of the things you talk about really hit home for me and I appreciate you.

Love love love this podcast!!
Thankyou, BB. Your show is amazing. Since I moved here from the UK I’ve wanted to learn more about the lives of Native American Indians. I was disappointed when I came out to the US because I assumed that I’d just meet you guys in American society, and you were nowhere to be seen. I should have tried harder. Your podcast is so honest, insightful, heartbreaking and inspiring. So full of positive messages about education and addiction. Great messages for us all. You should write a book, if you haven’t already. Much love, Shelley x

This is Indian Land!
This podcast is a true and honest representation of modern tribal life. No nonsense. No safety glasses. No mercy. BB goes above and beyond at telling the story; and that’s just what he does. When it comes to this art, he is virtuosic. If you still require further convincing, BB is pioneering a genre of indigenous survival techniques via podcast that has never been done before. This podcast is sharp and cuts deep. Coffee with an Indian is pure brilliance! The content is it’s own form of intellectual revolution that will catch you off guard and for good reason. Don’t waste any time...listen right now.

Uniquely brave, poignant & genuine pod
BB’s personal accounts are compellingly tragic, informative, humorous, relatable, and uplifting. His story is perhaps as valuable to American political and cultural discourse as one could possibly be, but his delivery is as real and unpretentious as it gets. Profoundly touched by episodes 10 and 11, most recently: “...there is some real magic in the world. I never knew that, until I knew that.” Many thanks BB, from across the pond in New Jersey.

The Reality of the Silent
CWAI is by far one of the greatest podcasts I have ever heard. Not only is a way for the host to tell their personal story of the endeavors they have endorsed, but also provides a realistic approach to modern tribal communities and poverty. The stories told are not just experienced by one, but by many. It speaks to everyone in a sense that we can all relate with most of the issues discussed one way or another. Whether it be in the form of sorrow or tragedy, or pride or spirituality, CWAI speaks to its audience and speaks truth through experience.

Heart Story
Something about stories told from the heart, you FEEL them. Teachers and students everywhere should tune in and learn, listen, feel, and consider Brian BB Melendez’s heart story. Thanks for making this, Brian.

Take a Listen - It's Worth It
For teachers, young adults, and adults I recommend Brian “BB” Melendez’s podcast: Coffee With an Indian. The material is straight forward and not sanitized to down play or remove the realities of life. I like that. I know some might find either or both of these a little “raw”. Life is more than a little “raw” for many. Melendez writes on the Coffee With an Indian web site, that this “is a tribal-social-podcast-platform for all things uniquely indigenous. Basically, we get ridiculously caffeinated—then, from a (raw) tribal perspective, intelligently assess everything! Our mission is to stimulate constructive introspection within all communities, by supporting forward thinking spaces for all people.” Melendez captures listeners with his authentic voice and non-manicured story. It is his story, his life, and he tells it to you as your “resident Indian”. He is a Northern / Southern Paiute - Western Shoshone. Listeners will come to known him, his circle, his challenges, his triumphs and his journey. The depth and honesty of his story will draw you in. He wants to stimulate thought. He does that. He has my brain focusing on the complexity of and humanity’s connection to Native American issues. I am grateful for that. I invite you to start with episode 1 and listen to his journey.

Who would’ve known
I’ve known this man for many years and have been really good friends. Listening to this podcast I have learned a lot about his life and struggles I never knew. He was always so happy and outgoing you would have never guessed he was going through hard times. I’m proud of the man he has become.

Yeah, it’s a little dry. It’s more like listening to an audiobook than I podcast, but it’s truth.

You need to be listening to this
This is the realest podcast I’ve ever heard. Brian is a brilliant story teller who shares how it really is for a lot of indigenous people living in America. Every episode has an important message to take away that all natives and non-natives need to hear. ✊🏽 Keep it up, brother! I can’t wait for more episodes.

Me and my boyfriend always impatiently wait for a new episode because after the first episode you become entrapped! Very personal and unapologetically truthful , stories like these are important to our society.
