Coffeebreak Spanish is my absolutemente Favourite
I love listening to Mark and crew’s twenty minute session to apprendar Espanol. They are just the right length to learn bits of Spanish on the fly. The vignettes are enhanced by Marks Scottish accent in English and all of the participants high energy. Me gusta!

Amazingly Informative Lessons
This is my favorite. The hosts are very knowledgeable about the Spanish grammar as even as an advanced speaker I learn a lot

Very helpful!
I enjoy Coffee Break Spanish very much. Mark, the host, is very personable, and I find his explanations easy to understand and quite helpful. Like me, Mark is excited about teaching language and culture and about learning new ones himself, so I feel I’m being guided by a kindred spirit. I purchased the premium version of seasons 3 & 4, and I’m finding the transcripts, explanatory notes and translation exercises extremely useful now in season 3; I’m sure they will be even more so in season 4, when there are no explanations at all on the free podcast.

The Best Resource for Learning Spanish
I have listened to every episode of the podcast and most of them at least twice. The pedagogy presented my Mark is outstanding while making learning fun at the same time. The recording quality is top notch. I am not sure how this podcast could improve other than continuing to produce more episodes. Thanks so much for teaching me Spanish and teaching my wife how to speak with a Scottish accent! 😆

Fantastic
I can’t believe anyone has given this less than 5 stars. It’s free. It teaches so much. I just don’t know what else someone could be looking for without spending money. Seasons 1 and 2 provide the building blocks for the Spanish language. From there they take you through multiple different stories in Spanish to practice listening and comprehension.

Love Itt
I really love it because if you start from season 1, which is super beginner (that’s where I am) they really go through each word and I always remember everything!! I love the way they teach and would recommend this to anybody who’s learning Spanish.

Perfect!
Coffee Break Spanish has kept me company a long time and through many activities - driving, cycling, walking, household chores. With a small investment of time, my understanding of Spanish steadily grew. I didn’t have to make time to attend a class or give up a night of the week. I did all four seasons, then moved onto CBS Mag. I’ve just completed the first season of the CBS Travel Diaries and it was perfect for an intermediate learner like me. I understood a lot, but it also stretched me into new expressions. I liked the listening practice. There was also a speaking component. It was just the right mix of old and new material and many ways to improve. I look forward to the next season of travel diaries! Another plus.....I took a break at one point because of a number of caregiving needs in the family. When I was free to return, it was easy to jump right back in, to review where needed and keep moving.

Frustrating
Every podcast seems to be the same. They say they are “beginner” however, I guess the term “beginner” has changed from what I’ve always known it to mean. Every “beginner” podcast ends up being 75% fully Spanish conversing or is discussing intricate parts of sentences. To me, beginner means new, as in can hardly say hello in Spanish, so when majority of the podcast is a person speaking 100mph in full Spanish it becomes a waste of time. Where can I find a slowed down, true “beginner” Spanish podcast?! Anyone out there with help?

One of the best Spanish learner podcasts I’ve found
Season 8 so far has been SO HELPFUL. Picking apart and explaining vocabulary, irregular conjugations and sentence constructs is exactly what I needed in my practice. The content is always interesting as well.

One of the best resources to get you started
If you keep with it you will develop great listening comprehension skills. However, it’s not the only source I would use to learn a language as you need much more than one source, but this is a great addition to a beginner’s arsenal.

Excellent podcast
I’ve been using this podcast since I started learning Spanish two years ago; it’s extremely useful as a beginner and it’s still very helpful now!

Definitely love it

Amazing
Im so glad I discovered this podcast, years after it’s finished, but season 3 is perfect for my level where I feel like I’m challenged but also learning as I’m not in over my head. I love the format, love the cultural information, and hopefully I can pick up a sweet Scottish accent as well!

Maybe I should stick with Duolingo
I want to try this podcast, however I can’t get to Season 1. I can only get Season 7 despite the settings.

Super Helpful!!
I’m not done with all the content, but as someone who starting learning Spanish as a total beginner I’ve truly enjoyed my time with CBS. It’s challenging enough to keep me engaged, but in small enough chunks to be manageable. It’s been invaluable in my journey to being able to speak conversational Spanish from a truly beginner origin. Gracias por tu ayuda!!!

Perfect to listen on the go
I like how there's a guy who speaks in English and explains it all for us, but is there a transcript? I really wish there was.
zanethespidermanfan124
Perfect quarantine listening.
I listen to this when I go for my evening walk. It’s super informative, is in small enough chapters to digest, challenging enough to keep my brain from turning to mush.

Love the content, don’t love the misogynistic undertones ;)
This has been SO HELPFUL. I have been looking for something to listen to that would challenge me but wouldn’t leave me in the dust, and this is it! Also, it isn’t boring which is pretty important and rare. My only gripe is...why does the girl (a native Spanish speaker) have to pretend to be a ditz for the podcast? Those parts are pretty cringe-worthy, but apart from those moments, this is a great find. Highly recommend!

Perfect for Me!
I took eight years of Spanish (High School and College) and spent a semester in Madrid. Just got a chance to travel to Malaga and Granada in May and panicked when I realized how rusty I was. This is familiar Spanish for me (European rather than Latin American) as well as appropriate regional usages. I’m able to review the basics with Seasons 1 and 2 and challenge myself with the more sophisticated grammar and conversation in later seasons. Perfecta!

Changing how I listen
The conversational flow is so helpful for me to learn. I’ve been learning Spanish for almost a decade now and these episodes help introduce new terms and phrases to me while also making me feel like it’s not a lesson. It’s not something I have to listen to but something I want to listen to. Thank you for making learning fun.

LOVE this!
This team puts so much energy and information into each segment. Each piece is helpful. I love listening, especially when Mark explains (in English) what is being said in Spanish. It helps my comprehension! 😊 10/10

Started great- then got too quick too fast
I started listening to an episode a day supplemented by studying the vocab words. Once I got to about season one episode 20ish, he and Kara started going really quickly and just started saying sentences and stopped explaining. I’m a little disappointed because I was really enjoying it.

Well designed course. Your learning curve improves exponentially with this.
Mark is a wonderful instructor. Highly recommend.

Excellent resource
My goals for 2020 include listening to CBS most days. I studied Spanish in college but have had little opportunity to practice since. Now I can use this podcast to improve my pronunciation, increase my vocabulary, and solidify my understanding of grammar. Each lesson builds on the previous in manageable increments. Somehow I managed to jump from season 1 to a later season and I was lost for a minute. Then I realized what had happened. I enjoy Mark and Cara’s Scottish accents and find they enhance the learning process by moving me out of my own accent.

Teaches Thpanish Spanish
If you want to learn an accent this is the podcast for you. If you are a North American and want to travel to Latin America, avoid this. I thought “hacer” was “hather” for like a month. Very confusing for a beginner who is trying to learn straightforward vocabulary. Why would you teach an accent based on some old Thpanish aristocrat’s lisp???

Great show! I am a Spanish native speaker
Great show in Spanish. If you want to improve your Spanish skills, you can listen my Podcast “Todo Cambia”. It’s only 6 minutos and enough for listening. I am able for collaboration!

The best part of my day
I’ve been through nearly all of the seasons and can’t thank Mark&Co enough for all the help. Fun, engaging, entertaining, relevant, and kinda addictive haha! Keep up the good work you guys, it means a lot to us learners. Thanks!

Helpful and fun!
I have really enjoyed listening to this podcast so far. It has been very helpful to me, but also entertaining and engaging!

Fantastic
I have to say that Mark and his team have done a great job with this podcast. I started listening to this podcast 3 years ago to help me learn Spanish, I have to admit that I wasn't expecting much. However I started listening to it everyday and I now speak Spanish. My Spanish friends always say they're impressed every time I speak Spanish with them. Mark y co.seguid con el buen trabajo. Siempre os voy a apoyar. Un oyente estadounidense ¡gracias!

Learning Spanish
This is such a great podcast. What a great tool to help you learn Spanish.

A wonderful podcast with great teachers!
This is an excellent resource for those looking to pickup or work on their Spanish learning. I find Mark and Kara very easy to follow and they make learning a lot of fun as well as provide tons of relevant situations for travelers needing to have real world dialog. Thanks for all that you do!

Awesome
I’ve gone through several of the Spanish language podcasts and this is the best and only one I’m writing a review for. Personally I discounted this one because is centered on Castilian (Spanish from Spain) but it’s easy style won me over. Soooo Coffee break Japanese next? 😁

5 Star Education and Entertaining
Let me start off by saying that anyone that has a problem with Mark or Cara’s accent doesn’t have any business learning a second language. Mark and Cara both speak clearly and provide both educational and entertaining conversation as you learn a second language. I’ve tried audiotapes and other podcasts, and Coffee Break Spanish blows the competition out of the water. They teach the language in a way that normal people can understand and they frequently provide details about the culture and language that other podcasts lack. Give it a shot, you won’t be disappointed.

Food for Thought
I reaaaaallly want to give this podcast 5 stars, but I’m finding that after about 3 or 4 episodes, the pace totally changed and got overwhelming. I took French in HS and a little Italian in college, and I know that everyone comes to language with different aptitudes. It was so thorough and paced well at the beginning, but then all of a sudden, I’m listening to full conversations and am missing 80% of what they’re saying, only to have a fraction of it explained. It’s not really practical... if I’m beginning Spanish or hoping to learn it, I’m not going to catch on if I can’t get more break down of basic words and ideas. One of the segments in the 5th episode starts taking about present subjunctive and giving nuances therein. I’m sorry, but that’s just a bit too steep a jump for the average person. I’m bummed because the people on the podcast seem lovely, but I got super discouraged. I know there is a member version, but why advertise it as a free podcast, if understanding is contingent upon getting the non free podcast? Sorry for the critical feedback, but I really wanted to be honest.

A Tale of Two Kitties
Phenomenal language-learning tool
I took Spanish for 8-years in school, then forgot everything after I stopped speaking it for a few years. Coffee Break Spanish helped me get my skills back quicker than I thought possible! The lessons are thoughtful and engaging. I would recommend listening to each episode a few times and supplementing with your own vocabulary study. Don’t listen to the silly people who complain about the accents, they’re easy to understand :)

Great podcast for learning
The best. If you’re thinking of learning Spanish and you don’t listen to Mark and Kara then sorry friend, you are missing out. Start now.

Good but Cara has a rotten accent
Really good format. This podcast has taught me a lot. However, Cara’s accent is just plain preposterous. I often doubt if I am saying things correctly due to her ridiculous Scottish accent. Mark is amazing and they both seem to really care.

Helpful and enjoyable
Not only are the format and length of these lessons effective, the personalities of the host and hostess shine through and one can feel sincere respect and affection for them.

The Best Spanish Podcast
I’ve been learning Spanish for years but never quite “got it”. This podcast has been the best thing for me - they break apart sentences, explain why things are the way they are and really dig into the fundamentals. This podcast has really transformed and accelerated my Spanish comprehension. Love it!!
Preggers1038
It’s great!
I love this podcast. I think it’s better than the Duolingo podcast because they translate sentence by sentence after you listen to an entire convo in Spanish. Keep up the great work! I’m learning so much

Fabulous learning tool!
I absolutely love Coffee Break Spanish. I was determine to find an affordable way to learn more Spanish, and this was one of the best podcasts I found. Mark is fantastic at pacing and explanations, especially of tricky tenses and words. He also dives right in teaching important phrases you would want to know when traveling in a Spanish speaking country. Another plus? I am traveling to Spain, and I enjoy that he teaches primarily in a Castilian accent. He always makes sure to teach the Latin American pronunciation, too, just in case his listeners are traveling elsewhere. If I subscribed to his bonus content, I’m sure I would be doing even better, but I have fit this daily dose of Spanish into my busy life easily. I highly recommend listening to the podcasts in order, unless you are already an intermediate learner.

Love it!
Mark and Cara rock the house. I listen while walking the dog. I absolutely love the way they teach the Spanish language. I enjoy learning the vosotros even tho all of my Spanish speaking friends are from Mexico. They say it’s great for me to learn it anyway. Thanks for doing this podcast. You guys rule. We are visiting Scotland this summer. Hasta pronto!

Highly recommended!
I started listening to coffee break Spanish before I moved to Spain, and at first it was difficult to memorize everything, but once I actually moved here, the things you learn are phrases and situations you come across every day! It’s been a great tool to help me navigate my day to day. Mark is a wonderful teacher!

Bien!
I’ve learned so much and keeps my attention and desire to want to listen. Instructor is great and so helpful. I’ve even bought the courses because it’s so useful. I’ve recommended to many.
lurmm2022
Ok lessons, but pronunciation is off!
Some of the words are pronounced in a very strange way, most obviously the way a double L is pronounced. I’ve been all over Spain and South America, and I’ve heard it pronounced like a ‘y’, ‘j’, ‘sh’, or even ‘ch’, but never a ‘li’! So many times in the lessons they pronounce words like ‘silla’ for instance (meaning chair) as ‘silia’!
