On this episode of Coach Like a Champion, we have Elgin High School's offensive coordinator, Adam Castro, as our guest. His Elgin Owls won the 4A State Championship this past season, 2024. His roots stem from Lawton, and he has been at Elgin for the full rebuild, helping get them to the top. He discusses the special group that got them there and tough lessons learned along the way. Coach Schneider is the offensive coordinator at Bixby High School in Bixby, Oklahoma. He has won numerous State Championships and assisted in establishing one of the most dominant and well-ran programs in Oklahoma football state history. His counter schemes are very well known and have gone viral. Coach Schneider shares with Bo his coaching journey and some practice methods. He also has some humorous choices with who to play HORSE with! Also, due to recording on a snow day we got some interruptions from my kids so bear with me! Sha'Hada is the Director of Athletic Performance at Tulsa University. He is in his first year there with his priority being the women's basketball team. He has been over Athletic Performance/Strength and Conditioning at multiple colleges and also for the football program at Southlake Carrol in Texas.

Coach Trent Earley was just promoted to the Co-Defensive Coordinator at the well-known and consistently successful D-2 program, Valdosta State University in Georgia. He also runs the special teams and coaches the linebackers. Bo knows him from Earley's early coaching days at Oklahoma Baptist University. Coach Earley has some great one-liners and ideas for motivating players to give their all at every opportunity.

On this episode of CLAC, my wife Kenzi kindly graces us with her presence. She grew up a coach's kid, her dad coached the MACU soccer teams for the majority of her life. She was an All-American DII soccer player, and now has been married to me as I have coached football and other sports for the past 7 years. She talks about the time commitment, COVID, changing jobs, having kids, and everythign in-between. Your spouse is going to relate to everything she has to say!

Coach Edward Morgan started off in the business world working in downtown Dallas, Texas. Friday Night Lights kept calling him back to the game he loved and Texas high school football lived up to the hype! He did whatever it took to get into coaching, and continues to do whatever it takes to help the players and fulfill his goals of being a coach. He has made a couple of stops coaching in Texas. I am proud to know Ed from our playing days at Oklahoma Baptist University. This makes two Bison in a row for the podcast! Yall are going to love everything Ed has to say! Let's GO!

Kimes Gilbert is the head football coach at Chisolm High School in Enid, Oklahoma. He has held that position for two years. In year one, they won only one game. In year two, they won 6 games and made a playoff appearance. Bo knows Kimes from their playing days at Oklahoma Baptist University. Kimes was a defensive end and an All-American. He started coaching in central Oklahoma in Midwest City and then Choctaw before going to Chisolm HS. Kimes discusses the turn around of the program, coaching with his brother, and one of the most entertaining H-O-R-S-E choices yet!

Coach John Boogaard is the brand new offensive coordinator at Edmond North High School in Edmond, Oklahoma. He was just awarded the honor of being on the 35 under 35 list for rising football coaches in the state of Oklahoma by the OFBCA. His roots are from the west side of the nation in mountain country. He started his career off coaching as a GA and has quickly worked his way up the ranks in high school ball. Coach Boogaard discusses some drills that he had to invent due to lack of equipment when coaching at the NAIA level and how he still uses them even now. He also walks us through his coaching career, a solid 2 Minute Drill performance, and a HORSE choice that left me scratching my head! Coach Jason Melot just retired from coaching football after over 30 years! Most recently he wore many hats at Oklahoma Baptist University; Linebackers, Recruiting, Hudl, Special Teams, and more. Melot coached football all around the Moore district and some other programs in south Oklahoma. He also did a stint as the President of the OCA, so he is well known throughout the profession. I am proud to call him one of my coaches and thankful he was willing to come on and talk about his career and what it was like starting 2 programs from scratch with his good coaching friend, Chris Jensen.

Coach Jay Price is one of the most successful basketball coaches in the state of Oklahoma, both in regards to wins on the court and impacting young men to have a better life. He talks about mission trips to Nicaragua, coaching his kids, the 22-23 season, and coaching a Gatorade POTY. For Coach Price it is always more than just coaching basketball, and that is obvious in my conversation with him.
